Quadrajet choke adjustment?

So, on the 77 i just picked up, it has the stock quadrajet and deivorced heat stove shoke setup like this,

Is the bending of the rod the only adjustment? Seems like mine high idles for longer then i would like and is not cooperative about "kicking down" when i blip the throttle. I would like it mostly to high idle for a shorter period of time, and kick down as soon as i want it to. Any tips?
 
The choke releases when that coil heats up from the heat of the manifold. Could be that coil is just old and not as responsive as it used to be :dunno:

I believe you can get new ones for em still.
