Quadrajet choke adjustment

take the spring off the original and flip it over. that replacement doesn't have enough coils
Would it then hook over the top of the lever?

How can something so simple be this ****ing complex! lol

Just going to flip the ****er over and see if it works backwards, 50 50 shot right? lol

It sounds like you need a hug!!!
:haha::haha:

It's old school technology. Sometimes it's difficult to step back in time, especially if you are just needing to make a step forward.
In the last few months, I have gone deeper into a Q-jet than previously in my life. Installed bushings for the throttle shafts and several other items. For the sole purpose of preparing a truck for sale.
I just want it gone, but I want it done right!

Persistence should reward you with a good end result!

Update: I turned out the fast idle cam screw about a 1/4 turn and now it will step down after I hit the gas pedal 3 times (this is after cleaning all the linkage and with a new thermal coil spring and cap, gasket). I will back it off another 1/4 turn and try tomorrow morning, hopefully I can get it to drop down with just one hit of the gas pedal.

I would back the choke coil off towards lean, one more mark from where you have it. It's not real cold at night, yet.

I'm not sure if this is what you already adjusted.

The fast idle screw means RPM to me.
The coil tension adjusts how hard the choke sets and also makes a difference on how long it's on.
If you get it too loose, then it goes too lean when the vacuum pull-off kicks on.

The fast idle screw also puts tension on the fast idle cam, the problem I had was the cam not gravity falling in order to step down. I will keep messing with adjustments.

I forgot to update this, so I got everything working good. The problem was while adjusting the choke it was bogging pretty bad, the more I adjusted the choke the worse it got so I thought the 2 were tied together. Long story short, I was talking to @Shawn about it and he suggested checking the fuel filter, didn't think it would be that easy but after I installed a new filter it ran perfect. After a new filter I was able to adjust the choke correctly without thinking it was closing causing the bogging.

Here is the pic...
