Quadrajet choke adjustment

The one you have would be on the engine front side of that post. But I am not sure that is the correct cover for that carb

The vacuum cans work and hold vacuum?

Does the choke lever in housing move freely? Wondering if it's gummed up.

It looks to me that the coil just lifts the lever and gravity is supposed to bring it back down.

Not sure if the vac back offs work or not, will test when i get the new thermacoil delivered.
Lever moves freely... but does not fall down from gravity.
Have no idea.

you need to open the throttle for weight to fall. The high speed idle screw holds the weight up after coil unwinds until the throttle opens

That cover is not matched to the housing/lever.
You need the one with the loop.
You don’t have the slotted choke housing lever.
I can get pics of the difference.
With the cover off the choke the lever with the step or steps should move freely under the choke housing with the throttle open.
It’s weighted on one side and drops down with gravity when unrestricted, Throttle open choke cover off.
The lever in the choke housing can also bind up. Needs to be free to move either direction. It’s also weighted and gravity rotates it down when unrestricted. Throttle open choke cover off.
Silicone spray like wd40 silicone can be used to lube the components.
Don’t use regular wd40. It does not dry and collects dust/dirt.
You need to verify the vacuum bleed hole is not plugged in the choke housing or carb body, also the plastic adapter gasket is there for the bleed hole as well as the rubber gasket on the choke housing lever shaft going into the carb body.
No vacuum bleed, no heat drawn into the choke housing. It will still open eventually with heat soak.
When it’s all together with the choke lever on the high step and throttle held closed back out the high idle screw until it just touches the lever then back in 2-3 turns. Adjust the choke cover to where the choke flap just closes as was said.
When the engine starts the choke break pulls the flap open approx 1/8, 3/16 to prevent loading up.
Should put you at approximately 1200 rpm on start and 1600 when warmed up. Adjust accordingly.
There are several other adjustments but hopefully you won’t need to mess with any more than you have to.
Takes a few minutes for the choke coil to heat up and allow the idle rpm to drop when you touch the throttle.
You could also convert to electric and eliminate all the vacuum components including the vacuum hole and choke housing gasket.
Depending on the history of the carb determines what been done to it. It’s already got the mismatched choke cover and housing/lever.

Thanks!
1982 Chevy K30 4x4 with 454 and 4spd manual, what cover do I need and where do i get it and what is the part number?
I verified with like 6 different places that I have the correct cover, so frustrating.

You can see the differences. The little black seal has to be in the housing for the shaft.
The other plastic piece is the seal between the choke housing and the carb body for the vac bleed.
Cliffshighperformance.com is my choice for parts.
U can call him and he will know what u need. There are different opening rate springs also. Have your carb # from the left side. Should be 1708***** if it’s the correct carb
He has a forum also but response is slow.
Quadrajetparts.com is another source, plenty of pics of parts.

Call these folks and check with them this has the correct end. I have some cover but haven't found them yet. at least not the non electric ones.

The picture is too small to see what end it has.

yeah, I couldn't tell either, give them a call and ask. I have ordered from them good service.

Is electric choke preferred and this is a good time to upgrade?

Yeah original...

take the spring off the original and flip it over. that replacement doesn't have enough coils
