quadrajet, HEI, small brain, won't start:

Anyways it's funny how this thread has gone from discussing engines to mental health, mine in particular.

i think some of us are more susceptible to distraction than others and/or a lot of people are susceptible to distraction. The net and phones can be a great thing, yet they can be a horrible thing.

Remember before online? You did more. And when you do more, you get more momentum.........to do more. When i get bogged down in front of the computer, i tend to want to KEEP sitting in front of the computer because it does feel comfortable.

So, i think one aspect of mental health is mental momentum. The more you do.....and THINK, the more you tend to naturally do and think. The less you do......well......decay.....
And it's really not just ok, i'm in relax mode; Since there is always more and more and distracting and not necessarily useful/helpful content online, it's more like a rabbit hole you keep getting further and further and further in.........

Remember when we got magazines? (Notwithstanding that most of the content sucked,), but when we got them, there was an air of special-ness and excitement to the info. Something BIG was in the news. Remember that? We don't get that anymore.
Yeah I hear you.
I am still trying to manage my life to be more active and very little online presence, some days I fail but most days I am good.
As for magazines, those were good days, I loved the feeling when I received a new one so much I subscribed to 12 magazines.
I still have cases of them in the attic

Same here with the mags, it was the highlight of my month, and I would sit down and read them cover to cover.

i think most magazines were and are shit (looking at you Hotrod.....) they NEVER go into DETAIL...... But my point was, before net i would have to ask car friends any questions i had-----they were your internet. Also, you had no choice but to read car books (not magazines, but actually car books such as the HP series).

i think the best results i ever got out of a book so far was with the Rochester book by Doug Roe (also an HP book). At first i really couldn't get it. Then, i decided to get a reman carb from PepBoys (Pepboys has turned out to be another sad story for another thread.....) and read and follow along in 3D------and then i finally GOT IT.

i think i decided on a reman carb instead of a junkyard unit was because it wouldn't smell and get all fummy and stuff because i wanted to read inside where it's more comfortable, cozy and warm.
