I just traded for a quadrajet to replace my AFB I know I know what was the AFB doing on a Chevy it was cheap okay. Any way I rebuilt it and at idle and cruise it runs good but it has a bad hesitation upon getting on it, and blowing a puff of black smoke upon exceleration. For some reason the kickdown is not working either. Motor is brand new and stock What do you guys and Gals think Thanks for your imput

Its time to lock them in!

I dunno about the black smoke... but my carb was hesitating due to a vaccum leak... little crack in the hose which was hard to see under the dirt... might wanna check for those...?

I removed my quote so gay, vegetarian, minority, eco-nazis who love Jesus, nuke spotted owls, vote Gore and smoke medical marijuana won't be offend.

Maybe it's running too rich? I was having problems with my Q-jet up untill a few days ago... Damn choke would never turn off, and the idle was extremely high. When I'd romp on the gas, it would hesitate a bit. The thing was running way too rich and caused me to fail inspection. It was also a PIA to start because the thing would flood the engine easily. So when I stepped on the gas more than once when cranking it, it was automatically screwed. The truck also used to backfire through the carb and barely turn off when I cut the ignition. See if anyone you know knows how to tune a q-jet.

A quick solve to the flooding is to hold the gas to the floor and then crank it. Works everytime!
