I'm looking for a good source for a Quadrajet for my K5. Right now it has an Edelbrock 1406 that was on it when I bought it. Having had these in the past I'm just not all that impressed with them and this one needs rebuilt as it is.

Scan through summit, they carry some. As I recall they are either Jet or Edelbrock. If you find one used, you can also send it in to one of the carb shops and have them rebuild and revise the shafts

Check Sean Murphy Induction in Ca. When I wanted a qjet I bought a good core and sent it to SMI who then but it based on the engine spec's I provided.

Edelbrock no longer makes their qjet. Bummer cause it was a good option. I have one that I bought 20 years ago. Have had to go through it recently but still running.

clean remans from SMI or Jet... being in the marine biz, we go other routes... guaranteed carb or sumfin out of FLA has been ok.. we actually have a guy in south joysey that does em now for us.. I have zero time for any of that nonsense anymore... doing em on my coffee table while watching boobtube at night is no longer an option...

it's kind of funny at the timeline of carbs in the marine biz... I still have , maybe a dozen boats in the marina, out of like 220 we'll say total, that have carbs... the boats are generally a solid 10 yrs, if not 15, behind the times, but we've been HEAVY multiport for a couple decades now, and, thankfully, carb'd boats are the oddity these days... as an oldschooler I totally relate to carbs, but as a mechanic who needs boats to stay running and not wanna stall, in november, mpfi is nice... ;)

oh, and, umm for carbs, quads rule... :saweet: from stock to mild mill, I'll take a quad ALL day over a holley, carter, or e-brocks versions...

I like Holleys, just not in a 4x4 that's going to see off road use. I found Carter/Edelbrock carbs to be finicky with low manifold vacuum with that stupid secondary design and how you have to adjust it. Quadrjets I've never had an issue with when they run right, I just never had the knack for tuning them but they work well in 4x4 applications. The truck is eventually going to get EFI but I just want a decent runner until then.

I got my Qjet built by SMI back in the early 2000's . It was done very well, fixed my truck. I did melt the sealant off of the well plugs from not having a spacer under it to separate it from the engine heat enough.

It requires a seance and black magic to sort a Qjet

I have a Holley truck avenger, they are stupidly overpriced now but they do work well off road. I picked it because Holley was what I was familiar with, but it is hard to beat a qjet off road. I think the biggest problem with the holleys is everyone buys a 670 or 770 and it’s way to much carb for what they have….I’m running a 470 and it’s about perfect for a stock 350. Agree on the edlebrock, I could never get one of those to run right.

I think that cfm rating thing is a whole nuther thread/rabbit hole for another day. I’m super opinionated on that :haha:

Always read carbs are like cams, easy to go too big.
It's hard to beat a well tuned q-jet though. Sort of going with fuel injection. Imo at least.
