I'm getting tired of my 625 demon on my 383...I tune it correctly and its sweet for a while, only to get finicky again.

I'm considering going back to a Q-jet, my boss, old teacher, friends, and I keep reading stuff about how much performance you can get out of them has made me quite serious about doing it.

Anybody gone from a demon/holley to a Q-jet and liked it? Hated it?

I realize, that I'll have to tune it to my engine and specs, but I'm talking average performance.

Also, anybody have any tips to making it perform best?

Thanks guys

i dumped my holley 650 with the auto adjust feature for a jet stage 2 qjet which is BALLIN by the way. i love it. i can spin the tires and mash the gas and it can bark the tires going into second. couldnt do that with the holley. also couldnt keep the hholley from running way too rich, i would always gunk up plugs.

never gonna go back.

When I did still run a carb I started with a Q-jet and liked it...as in it ran good and I got decent fuel mileage. Not knowing better and seeing as the carb was stock and pretty old I swapped to a Holly 650 with vac secondaries. Got better upper rpm performance, but it would not keep tune for more than two weeks or so. Then I swapped to the Edlebrock 1406, 600 cfm electric choke. Close cousin of the old Carter AFB which I was familiar with. Kept tune, preformance was good, but off road it was a nightmare.

I should have just stuck with the Q-jet.

Now I will only run FI or diesel. Nothing has more potential to kill the fun off road like a carb does.

Currently have a demon on the crew cab. Going back to a quadrajet. Sent mine to Jet performance and had them rebuild it. Haven't had the chance to do the swap yet but hope to very soon.

Before I went to propane I ran a Q-jet... Ran great... I could run at angles that other carbed rigs couldn't...

Q jet, better milage better off road performance, good on road performance

I had people who didn't' know me occasionally ask what type of fuel injection I used on my truck, I would respond Rochester.:D

Putting a quadrajet on my dually for sure, fuel injection rules above all else though (other than a diesel)

I would recommend the Quadrajet over the Holley, but for the best results look for a TBI or TPI setup. EFI is so much better.

My Qjet is great. I wouldn't consider anything else for my vehicle. Easy rebuild, stays tuned, not finicky, and always reliable. No stalling issues on angles and works without issue on fast, jerky, rough terrain where you may bounce around alot.

I'm likin these answers, what kind of numbers where you guys getting mileage wise?

My truck averages 7-9....:eek1: haha

I get about the same 7-9 mpg. 454/4.11/39.5 TSL's.

Just to add...not sure how accurate or plausible this is...but I did do some strict mileage testing two years ago. At 55mph at about 2200-2300rpm I was supposedly getting 11mpg on a nice day on the highway. I did several 80 mile trips along the same route which is all flat. Most all traffic was passing me on the highway but I was ok with that. The BBC RV cam I have (otherwise bone stock engine 8.2:1cr or so) is spec'd at 2200rpm cruise. Is this mpg possible?:dunno:.....I'm not sure but I just did it for curiousity sake. I won't argue or inisist it can get 11mpg, even if I can only get 9mpg highway I'm still keeping the truck.:woot:

I run a Q-jet on my 383, I love it.

When I daily drove the truck I averaged 12-13, saw as good as 15 on a trip to Moab. Full body, 1 tons, 465/205, 4.56's and 37's at the time.

when I had my 40s and 4.56s I would get around 11 or so at 65 mph any faster than that and mileage went down very fast.

Got 13 one tankful, but that was with a stock old and worn out motor

Obijuan did you get the 800 cfm light truck carb model 36002 or the 750 cfm carb, I want to get a quality Remanufactured q-jet and a extra 74 bucks for the stage two doesn't sound bad.
