Quantitiy discount (~15%) for SOFT TOPS!

They will take and do the order, just not wanting to do a bunch of individual ones, I guess....

ORD wants it all on a fax page using one Credit card, with descriptions part numbers name and ship-to addresses...

I am just the messenger, man... sorry.

BlazingJ,

I emailed you. Basicaly, Toybox said, I would be better off getting my own dealership with Specialty Tops.

I like the way Supergas is thinking!

In my opinion, the vendor to go after for 1st Gen Soft tops is http://www.can-back.com. I've had a BestTop for about 6 years and it's held up pretty darn well. I'd buy it again, if I had to buy another off-the-shelf soft top.

Seems to me that most of these "heritage" soft-tops, like BestTop, Specialty Tops/Kayline etc. are woefully outdated in their design and use of modern materials. The Can-Back design seems clean, sturdy, and full of nice features with the sole drawback that it doesnt fold down, but does allow rolling up of sides and rear curtain. The other condeming factor for the Can-Back is that they dont currently produce a top for 1st Gen Blazers!

A few months ago (maybe more) there was rumor that Can-Back was considering the business opportunities in a design for our 1st Gen Blazers. As I recall, other members of this board were in contact with Can-Back and lobbying on our behalf for them to produce one.

I personally spoke with a representative of Can-Back at the Offroad Expo in Pamona, CA last year and came away with the impression that Can-Back was somewhat on the fence about the economics (how big is the market, it certainly isnt going to grow).

There was talk of a group purchase with Can-Back and they seemed to string us along for a while but ultimately backed out of producing a top for us.

I figure it's only a matter of time before the current vendors stop producing tops for us, and I dont see much opportunity for them to innovate for such a small market. I want to have a well designed, feature rich top for my truck soon and would like to avoid having one custom designed/made.

I've heard rumor that Can-Back did produce at least 1 top for a 1st Gen but I dont know if it was a prototype or a custom job. Either way, if this is true, it almost certainly means they have the patterns and jigs around and might be swayed into prodcuing a limited number, assuming we could bring them X number of orders. How large x is, I dont know.

Would anyone else be interested in starting a kind of petetion to lobby Can-Back to produce a top for us? I dont think we're nearly the size community as the corvetteforum but I sure would like to try!

I have a fast-trac top but I would like something better and I know the Can-Back top was going to be a superior product. I don't mind starting a petition but they did pi$$ on our head in saying they would do it and it would be ready on "x" date. If we do this we should have an open mind knowing they might screw us again.

I am with you. I have doubts, however, that enough members of this board would be prepared to put up the 12 or 15 hundred bucks such a top would cost (guess based on prior thread). However, my ship has come in. It would go just right on my body off restoration underway. COUNT ME IN! You may want to start another thread here and see how much interest can be generated.
Good luck (to us all)

I was the guy in contact with Can-Bac trying to get a group purchase together with them.I also went down to their shop and finally spoke with them in person when I wasn't satisfied with the communication via e-mail.
At that time they had produced 3 1st gen tops. All were one-off's and each were a different design. The guy I spoke with said they had no plans from those tops and that they were built with direction from the customer they were making it for.The 3 tops were quite expensive. All custom jobs costing 3 grand and up!After approx. 9 months of being strung along and statements saying their R+D on their top was close to being finished I finally went there and saw for myself that nothing, absolutely NOTHING was in the works and that they had no plans,drawings,scetches,prototype's...NOTHING AT ALL!
I was pissed and asked why I had been stung along for 9 months. He said the guy I'd been talking to was no longer with Can-Bac.He also stated that at the time our 35-40 orders ( a large order to us) was in fact a small order to them and the time it would take for them to develope a top just for 1st gen Blazers wasn't cost worthy.
I still left the place pissed.
Can-Bac would be an ultimite top for our truck.Top notch materials and construction and I'd still be 1st in line if they decided to make one for us even after the crap they pulled.
