for paint your best bet is probaly spray paint, it will cost you under $100 for a full camo paint job

yeah, i was looking at those on ebay. The MP one looks sick.

Im considering doing a "proffesisonal" job later in the year with my friend ( he wants to paint his bronco black) and just not put clear coat on it, orrrr go rattlecan like you suggest.

Ive been reading alot about painting. My questions are what kinda prep/work is needed for rattlecan paint and how will it look. Anyone got pics of rattlecan jobs? Esp camo?

And i know from reading, 3 coats of paint should be good, but when doing random multicolor painting, how do i keep 3 coats in all areas of the truck. Do one color leave spots for the other colors?

In the end i want my truck to be this: http://www.alfaheaven.com/Military%20Section/Blazers/Blazers-Pages/MC135.html

well I think the "right way" to do it would be to scuff up the surface. the main problem with sparay paint is in some places it gets kinda unconsitant.

I am sure someone who knows this stuff better will chime in.

I got some pics of my last truck, as long as yall dont mind me postin a pic of a f*rd

before

after, done with ace hardware paint.

I drove it for about 2 months like that then sold it, still looked pretty good. the thing is i didnt scuff up the surface i just painted right over the stock paint and the bondo in my repair work(dont worry i replaced most the rusty metal). the main thing is if it started fadin i would just touch it up. I do that with my current daily driver (ford e-150)

I kinda miss that truck. but oh well look at the trade off, the money i got for that paid for the 350 in my K5.

good trade!

no offense but i cant see too much of a difference, maybe its the pics? the only thing i can really see is it looks darker with the black than before and not glossy, but it wasnt glossy before. The grey looks the same, the black looks a tiny bit darker. Dosnt look bad at all though, but you also followed the factory paint. I would be doing camo over the factory paint. How long did that take? Your finger must have been killing you haha

none taken.:wink1: I did only that section cause of the rust repair. Its kinda hard to tell i wish i had some better pics, but before it was a medium grey and after it was black. I think it turned out pretty damned good for being spray cans. the bottom part was done with "hammer tone" paint

as for time, well it was spread out over probaly 2 or 3 days, and i did about 2 coats.

the only thing is i dont know about painting the fiberglass top, I was told there was a specail trick to it.

heres some camo for ya. this is my friend Zuki, it used to be pink when it was stock. it has toyota engine, trans, tcase, axels, custom bumpers, custom cage. its a cool rig.

what is it? Never seen one of those before. How did he paint it? Almost looks light enough to be carried away. handle good on the trials? I like it for a small rig.

As for the top, i heard it requires a certian type of material to paint it and i think you need to sand it smooth?

cool little toys

all i know about the paint is it was just rattle can over the stock paint, but i am pretty sure he scuffed it up a little.

heres a stock one from google

Blazin: That is amazing! Thank you!

1978: For a rattlecan that looks pretty damn good. If you got any more pics of that rig id love to see em. Do you know exaclty how he did it and how many cans he went through? I cant even guess at what a full size blazer is gonna need to do a good 3 coats.

Also, i have 2 of those crome handels right behind my door, i would remove them but i dont want to leave the holes in the truck. Im thinking sand them too and match em to the paint underneath, sound good?

I will look I probaly have some more pics around. I am not sure exactly how many coats are on there, knowing my friend though its either 3 or 1. lol

We did my buddys K-5 with rattle cans in the drive way over a nice weekend. I think it turned out pretty good. Scuffed it up and shot it. This pick was before we cleaned it off. there was still allot of over spray.

Here is how I did it, the truck was blue when I bought it.
  • Light sanding of the whole truck.
  • Cleaned the whole truck to get all the dust off.
  • Then the whole truck got a coat of flat black rustoleum, primer on all the chrome parts, then the black.
I was going to leave it at that, but my neighbor brought over a case of beer.
  • We grabbed my Daughters sidewalk chalk and drew the pattern shown above on the truck.
  • Paint by numbers.
Done.:D

Oh, forgot to answer all your questions.

One coat of black, and one coat of the CAMO pattern....with little touch-ups as needed.
