So. I dont think im going to with the the 3/4 ton swap. I always wanted a cucv, but i dont need the heavy duty strength of one, which leaves the looks. Now to do it i figure ill just need a cucv rear bumper, a (maybe?) cucv front bumper, the grillguard and 6 lug rims that look like the ones the real cucvs have. Anyone do this? Im guessing ill need to strip all the silverado stuff off it to have it repainted. do the cucvs bumpers bolt up to the 86k5 frame? Would the grill guard look stupid with the dual headlights? Andd would the military camo look retarded with a blue interior? im assuming you cant paint crome so both bumpers would have to go. i dont know, if i cant get the bumpers on or the guard i say forget it, im not destroying the silverado look if i cant do it completley. What do you think?

and now for the newb questions:

1)why does a diesel engine sound different than a gasoline engine, like whats different about them? (ive always wondered this and i couldnt take it anymore:()

2) whats the point of companies like GM to have the chevy K5 blazer and then the GMC jimmy if they are pretty much the same thing. Different trims?
Its like the mercury sable and ford tarus, same thing, why?

Thanks ---the nub.

interesting, so i guess its just as simple as how the compression cycle works compared to the gas engine. didnt think it was that simple, thanks

I did this on my 89 Burb. The CUCV bumpers will bolt up to your K5. Just make sure you get ALL the brackets for the shackle mount stuff. I Had to drill holes for the rear bumper but the K5 frame lines right up.

the real cucv's are 6 lug, at least the blazer m1009 versions are. they are 10 bolts front and rear with 3.08's and a gov-lock in the rear, turbo 400 and np208.

Might be easier just to buy one:rolleyes: As mentioned the M1009 (Blazer) has 10 bolts and sucky 3.08 gearing. The pick-up versions are 3/4 and 1 ton.

www.steelsoldiers.com has a lot of info on them and where to get parts & such.

yeah i was considering that. But gas mileage isnt really an option as its not my DD. I dont need one tons or 3/4 tons i think. And to find a running, not monsterized cucv around here is impossible. Plus i dont have the money and im pretty attached to my current blazer (im sure you know how that is). If i had a fuel effiecnt blazer i would never drive my civic :haha:

So anyways, the front bumper bolts right up?
What holes did you need drilled on the rear bumper?
What do i need along with the bumpers to mount them?
What should i do about the other crome parts like the mirriors?

Give the chrome a good sanding with 100 - 120 grit and paint will stick to it. Or find somebody with painted who wants to swap;)

yeah, after reading up on it, cucvs are out of my price range and there are none available even close.

Long island sucks for old chevy trucks. The only older trucks i see are burbs and maybe rarley a blazer or k-series truck. Cucv? Ha!

thanks. Now what holes do i need to drill in my rear bumper? and ill be good.

Also, will paint stick to the grill or should i get a cucv grill too?

oh and where would a good place be to do the paint job?

Edit: and what size are the cucv rims?

Thats good to know I gotta paint my rear bumper cause all the chrome is peelin off and its turning the rusty brown color.

any way back on topic.

If you want a "CUCV" paint job, i would just get some rattle cans and go from there. also really easy to touch up if you scratch it up wheelin'

I could never figure it out.
there is a member on here "Craig Artzner" he searched on and off for like 10 years. these wheel will take stock hub caps. he wanted it for more of a resto thing. I dont think he ever knew you could find them on CUCV's though. Ive only seen one set in about the past year and a half and it was a a swap meet, the guy wanted like $360 for some old rusty wheels. what pops up a lot it the 15X6 wheels, which you dont want unless your running the stock tire size P235X65X15. lol
