Wondering if there was an oem option for an auxillary gas tank on a 73 blazer, and if so, how rare they are.

Long story short, I was talking to this guy earlier that is selling his 73 and he yammered on and on about rare oem auxillary fuel tanks, and taking all the windows and window rubber out for some reason, couldnt understand his accent. He also told me he thought it was pretty rare, because the only other place he had ever seen the auxillary fuel tank was in the show hawaii 5 oh???? or maybe miami vice...not sure. Definitely an interesting half hour conversation with me getting in maybe 3 full sentences.

Crack is bad...

31 gallons wasn't enough that he thinks GM offered an auxillery tank? Has he had it from day 1? I seriously doubt it, and I seriously think a PO added the Aux tank.

I had the option sheet the orginal owner filled out for my 73 (don't have it anymore she passed on and I had a fire) but there was no option for an aux fuel tank

Don't know where it would go.

LOTS of such stuff ... not including, to the best of my knowledge, aux tanks for Blazers ... can be found on the Brochures link below.

Only aux tanks I know of!

true there should be a distinction between factory option or dealer installed aftermarket option. As far as a "factory option" I have never seen anything to suggest there was that but I am sure there were at least a couple of companys making aux tanks for blazers that dealers may have installed and warrantied just like the factory stuff

So OEM option as in designed and tested by GM I dont' think so

Dealer installed aftermarket option probably so

Awesome, yeah that looks like its the tank he was describing, he said it mounts in the cargo area on or next to the wheel well, he was kinda rambling at that point.

He said its not installed, but he has it in all original packaging in storage:eek1:, but will come with the blazer. He also has the push bar in that hickey ad, but this one IS mounted to the blazers front bumper.

Its pretty cool that he has some of these parts sitting around since they are probably pretty rare to come accross, but looks like he has the years confused a little on what year model they were designed for. He was also saying something about having a rollbar from a 74, since the 73 didnt come with one from the factory, which I am sure isnt right either.

He also had a pretty thick foreign accent so I am not sure how much that will factor into the information that he gave me about it, but he said he is the second owner and has had it for 10 years.

Thanks for the help guys, cleared a few things up for me for sure.:bow::bow:

Actually that is true. The factory offered a front rollbar for '74-75, but not for '73.

really, wow I would have never thought that was true since it would have literally no protection in case of a roll-over.

In 1973, people took more responsibility for their own actions than they do today :haha:

Well, I didn't mean to be a smart-ass... much.

Buddy of mine and I took a road trip in my '74 across the Pacific Northwest, a decade or so ago when gas was cheap.

So he'd never driven anything that big before, and asked me "How's it corner?"

I said, "No." :haha:

Thirty years ago folks understood that a truck drives like a truck.

Nowadays they want their trucks to drive like a Cadillac ... which is why you can buy a Suburban (Avalanche, Tahoe) that's all gussied up with the Caddy name on it. It's a travesty, really, and my trucks shudder every time an Escalade goes by -- to think that the Slades are descended from my trucks!
