recently, a 6.2 Diesel has come to be available to me if i am interested, which i think i am.

someday i plan on running some sort of 4 speed trans with OD, but for the time being, i will need to run the TH400, it was supposedly rebuilt less than 15k miles ago.

the question is, can i still use the same torque convertor, or is the Diesel setup different to where i would need a different convertor due to motor speed, torque differences or what.

this is going in a street driven truck, with ocassional towing and originally had a 454 in it .

not real familiar with Diesels, drove the big trucks for awhile, but that's about it, i DROVE them, and let the mechanics work on them

thanks

I think the real difference you'll notice is the shift RPM's. Diesel 400's are governed to shift much sooner than gassers. You can overcome that by shifting "manually" if you feel the need.

I recall some lately said that not all converters will bolt to all flexplates, but I think thats the exception more than the norm. The converter itself undoubtedly has a lower stall speed than a gas version, but engine output is very much an influence on how a converter performs...more power from the engine, the higher the "stall" of the converter.

If it was rebuilt, there's a good chance the converter wasn't from a diesel anyways. Remanned converters, from what I've seen, have very few choices in stall speed, nothing like how GM did it.

The biggest difference between gas vs diesel converters is the # and location of bolts between the converter and flexplate. 6 bolts on a Diesel compared to 3 on a gasser. The flexplate bolt patterns on the diesel also are different between the 700R4 and TH400 so be sure you get one for a TH400 application.
