I got a gallon of Tremclad it says on the can to reduce with mineral spirits...I was wondering how much for the gallon?

I might be doing a little rolling and tipping.:D

most reductions are in the 10 to 15% range... but with any material, proper viscosity for how your applying is what matters.. poorman's viscosity test, pull the paint stick after mixing, stops dripping in 4 or 5 count, thin.. 8, 9 count, thick...

if your rolling and tipping, you'll want the paint pretty thin, with multiple coats..

Thanks Paul!
I Think I might have a few more questions for ya later.
Like can you remember the link for when you talked about rolling and tipping...I can't seem to find it.

it was a thread about an orange 69 charger.. it was more me trashing the technique than a few tidbits of tech later in the thread...

I've rolled and tipped many a boot stripe in the marina's... being it's mineral spirits, you can get decent results as it's a slow reducer.. which is what you want for rolling/tipping, a reducer that levels out...

patience is key.. you cannot expect to get full coverage in a coat or too... too heavy will result in runs and/or brush strokes..

scuff between coats... more thorough sanding in the later coats.. i've always found you usually need to do 5 or 6 coats to get decent results depending on color/coverage.. it can be WAY time consuming...

you'll also want to be a 4 drip on a viscosity test.. you can foam brush uncatalyzed paint with good results.. catalyzed a quality bristle brush is the way to go...

Sooo much reading in that guys thread.

On another note...... It does look damm good for rolling paint on in some cases

But my brain hurts now... Time for a BEER, ah I think I could get used to this being 21 thing hahahaha:haha::haha::haha:

the amount of sanding hrs in a job like that is ridiculous.....

I'm lucky that way we got air compressers all over the farm.
Just bead to find a place the isn't to dusty to paint.
I could use my garage but it gets alot of traffic through it during the day,my neibour wants to build a spray booth but I'm sure that will take him eons to finish.

Just do a makeshift one with some plastic, sweep and wet the floor down before painting so little dust gets in the air from you moving around, get some lights, u could get fancy with some fans, some furnace filters and some duct tape too :waytogo:

No.. I think I got a new plan, I know some guys...:D

Let me know if you find one that you also dont need a compressor to run! :doah:

back in my 20's, I rented a compressor for the day on many an occasion to paint a vehicle..

the Power Wagon..... start to finish in 3 days in a dirt driveway....
