Question for those with 4" lift and crossover steering.

Re: Question for those with 4\" lift and crossover steering.

Okay, yes my brakes are iffy (read need to do them) that is probably a lot of my problem. Also a D60 is more prone to DW due to the roll axis of the king pin design (the tires flop over about 8° on a 60) I think with new turned rotors and pads along with a stabilizer I would be fine. As for drivability, it is awsome! The truck is more responsive, predictable, and manuverable. Both street and trail. You will need to lose the sway bar though (probably won't notice a difference anyway). I am beyond happy with x-over.

As for weld in -vs- bolt in bracing, I run the welded on an uncracked frame. Mine fit like a glove (I tested it for high/low spots with paint). I got it from 4 wheelers supply in phoenix as well. I have put in a fly-n-hi one also (local 4x4 shop in town) and it was fine too. The fly-n-hi one was put on after spending an hour trying to get the friggin ORD one to "sorta" fit (it was still off even by CEE standards). This was about 3 years ago for the ORD issue so I hope they changed the stamp by now.

If there is going to be an argument over them at least fight for both to be used together.

Re: Question for those with 4\" lift and crossover steering.

ORD doesn't stamp those kits. One company makes all of them. I've been unable as of now to figure out who it is, but there is just one kit.

I totally agree that crossover rocks, especially off road. Once you convert you'll never go back. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think there is more then one company that stamps them. I have seen variations in them. My kit has some differences in shape then others I have seen. The bottom plate seems to be different somewhat and the edges of the side plate are different then mine. Unless the company changed up the plate a little bit there is more then one floating around.

The weld patch does not fit correctly

The weld in brace kit I used didn't lay flat to my frame either...and I never expected it to. BFD, run some bolts through and suck it down tight, tack weld and hammer, as well as clamping gets it done.

There are a bunch of 'plug' welds as well as the stitch welding around the periphery so it may as well be twice as thick in that area now.

The patch is also quite a bit larger than the mounting area so the load is being spread over a larger area. The under plate also helps triangulate and stiffen the crossmember area.

To say you'd never use another one or whatever is just foolish and is likely more because you sell the bolt in kit but not the weld in kit. /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Whats the best way to convert to x-over ?
Is there a kit to buy or can you get the parts from a boneyard?

Re: Question for those with 4\" lift and crossover steering.

Steering box from boneyard, I got most of my other parts from ORD. I have ORD crossover/hysteer arms, and got my pitman arm from ORD as well.
