2 questions, first i have a th400. No drain plug, how exactly does one change the fluid without getting an atf bath. I dont want to buy a new pan now or doing any real work, if its a pain i may have my mechanic do this. And second, what has breather hoses and where do they end? I know the diffs do. I want to extend them up to the top of the hood, im not planning any serious mudding but ya know, just in case. Thanks

K......Trans pan, no plug.....Fun.

If you take your ride to the mechanic for the oil pan - Let him get the trans pan.....lmao....

Loosen all the trans pan bolts, but do it in a particular order. Concentrate to the corner which is clearest of anything blocking it.....That will serve as a "spout" as you lower the pan. Its best to take the corner bolts of the chosen corner out first. I remove two back from the corner, each side.

Then, go from one side of the corner to the other, loosening bolts genrously. The idea is to form a grade/decline to the corner you chose. After you get the pan cracked (It will happen suddenly, BTW), you can start removing bolts, again - one per side of the chosen corner. Eventually, your pan will be in a leaning way and draining.

Once the majority is dumped, the rest is cake.

Vent tubes.....Generally speaking - There is one for every major component, on the top side. The diffs should have an actual line. A transmission basically has a nipple and no line (Not on my own anyway - 700r4). Its about 2" long maybe. The transfer has one also. The engine has the intake.

Hope it helps !!

Nipple - Sorry...

More like rigid tube. On the top of my r4 it looks like a little horn trumpeting :haha:

You just need to add a line is all after you locate the tube.

If you use a suction pump to pump ATF out the tranny pan it makes the job a piece of cake. Just put the tube down the the tranny dipstick tube and pump till you cant get anymore out. Leaves about a quart in there so its easy to drop the pan without getting a bath and making a mess.
Use either one of those cheapo suction pumps you can get at an autoparts store Or one of those electric drill powered pumps.

A very wise choice to extend the trans vent. I sunk my truck awhile back and filled the trans with water, took alot of flushing to get it all out.

(Vent=breather, same thing) You identified it above, right between the tranny and tranny hump. Its tight but doable.

thought so, okay then, ill take a looksee, maybe i can squeeze my ass up there. Its high enough that im not so worried, im not burrying the truck again. But the tcase and diffs im gonna mess with
