What fuel Pressure Regulators are you guys running on your motor? I believe my fuel pressure is WAY to high and I want one to bring it back down (I'm going to check my pressure after my blazer gets out of the shop.)
Thanks
Adam

Are you Carbed or FI? If you're Carbed and have too high of fuel pressre you'll know as it will hold the needle and seat open and flood over in the venturi's

I'm carbed.......ohhhh trust me it is flooding over in the venturi's.
Thanks
Adam

Do you have any idea what your fuel pressure currently is? From back in my hot rod days IIRC a stock mechanical fuel pump puts out between 5-9 psi. I know that Holley Carbs do not like a lot of fuel pressure or the needles will stick.

I'm between 6psi and 9psi I think it's high 6

If its a stock mech. pump then you dont need a reg. Have you cleaned out your carb lately? Sounds like your needle/seats are dirty.

I run 6psi on my race car with holley, it will tolerate more than that.

My Mechanic ripped it open and found it was dirty (A 4 month old carb). So he cleaned it up and put it back together. It's still doing it.

What pump do you have?

Have you measured the pressure?

I know there is some common mistake in assembly of the needle onto the float. Any chance it's put together wrong? Where is the float set and how old are the needle and seat?

What type of carb? What type of fuel pump?

A carb can stand around 7 psi (sometimes a little more) without any problems. Once upon a time when I was racing in local bogs my set up was running at 8 spi with no problems.

As mentioned, it's fairly likely the needle isn't hung off the float right, or the float isn't set correctly. Learn how to fix these yourself, as you've found, many mechanics don't know what they are doing.

This is your new carb, right?

I'm not sure what brand it is. It's just a regular stock pump.

I took a reading right after the fuel filter and it was High 6's I believe.
The guy that is doing the work is suppose to be the best. BUT he has said some things that is making me kinda iffy of him. This is the last time he will see my truck.
Thanks
Adam

It's a Reman. Edelbrock Performer Series carb 600cfm. It's 4 months old. Less then 10 miles on it and he said it was full of dirt:crazy: when he ripped it open......it's NEW right out of the box. I saw NAPA take it out of the box and hand it to me. When I checked the fuel tank when I ripped my old sending unit out the tank looked REALLY clean. I have new fuel lines in the back. The fuel filter has maby 1000 miles on it. I kinda think he has something against me because if he did all the work that I did to my truck last year he would of made around $7,000-/+

I will check it out when I get the truck back. I have a pretty good idea how everything works in one. They seem very simple to work on. I believe eldebrock says the float should be around 7/16" or something along those lines. I will do some research.

This is my new 4 month old carb with less the 100 miles on it. I know Edelbrock caebs can't suck this bad this is my 4-5 one this year.
Thanks

My Edelbrock was much happier after putting a fuel pressure regulator on. My stock pump was putting out 7psi, I got a Mr. Gasket (part #MGR-9710) regulator for $30. I run it at 5.5 on street and 3.5 offroad. I'm using the offroad needles and it makes a big difference offroad, not much difference on the street. Check your float levels 7/16 from the top to a 1" drop, and block your crossover tube while your in there.

I think I will put a regulator on it when I rip the carb apart.
Do you have a part number for the offroad needles?
Why so I want to block my cross over tube???
Thanks for your help

For some reason I thought you were working on a different carb, guess I jumbled yours up with another thread, sorry. I suspect the Edelbrock isn't so difficult with the float and needle/seat, however they do it. :)

I believe the part number for the offroad needles is EDL-1465.

You dont have to block the cross over tube, as it probably is not whats causing your flooding problem. That sounds like a improper float level or too much fuel pressure which the regulator will fix. Blocking or partly blocking the cross over will help to keep it from flooding when your off camber, some people use JB weld to completely block it off, I use a piece of 3/8 fuel hose cut in half and squeezed in there. If your going to have the top of the carb off its a good time to do it. Good luck!

When I got my edelbrock carb new in box, the floats were off just from shipping. Also the needle and seat was sticking open from a small piece of somethng from shipping. I also tried the mr gasket regulator but had nothing but problems with it leaking from the screws. Tried 2 times. I bought the edelbrock fuel pump and a pressure gauge and it stays right at 6psi and I have not had a problem since I set the floats and cleaned the needle and seats.

My regulator did that at first too. I used some Locktite pipe sealant on the threads and no more leaking!
