I have been looking for a 87-91 k5 and noticed the 89-91 sometimes have chest seat belts in the back seats.
This would be ideal for me since I have a family who will sometimes ride in the back.
However I noticed that the top of the belt seems to be attached To the roof of the removable top?
If that’s the case can the top still be removed and if so would the back passengers just have to use lap belts then?

I want to just get a 3rd row seat from a Yukon or suburban and toss it back there instead but I was just wondering for the meantime.

Thanks guys.

The 90-91 had rear shoulder belts. When the top is off only the center lap belt is working. The Tahoe rear sear is the best way to go. You can remove the factory holds downs from the Tahoe or there is after market bracket that bolt in place. I have a 90 top, that I got for that reason, on my 85 and I got rid of that set. I have 2004 Tahoe rear seat.

My '90 k5 has the shoulder belts. At that point in time GM didn't really want you to take the roof off anymore. The top has the "tamper proof" torx bolts and an additional hidden bolt to make it a bit harder to remove if I remember correctly. No big deal with the right tool. If you want the roof off, the seat swap or a cage with a mounting tab are good options. Swapping in some lap belts to keep things safe-ish is easy too.
