Hey all going to put a lockright up front in my 89 30 spline 10 bolt. I have 3.73's. Have any you guys had similar sized gears and if so did ya have to pull everything apart to get it in or are the 3.73's small enough to get the locker in w/o pulling everything apart:confused:

10 bolts , the pinion shaft generally clear the gears . You do have to pull the axleshafts to get the stuff in and out .

Yeah. Just follow the directions. Jusr rember that the instal instructions are for rear. The left and right sides sides are reversed on the front. So when the instructions say left. It is acually the right (passenger) side on the front.

Looking at the pumpkin , is looking at the pumpkin ..... ring gear is on the same side its on in the pictures . Axle is ON THE TRUCK backwards , but ring gear side is ring gear side is ring gear side etc :wink1:

I have 3.73 on my 89 K5. Trust me you dont have to pull the carrier on either front or rear to put in a lockrite. I have had my lockers out and in and swapped around between axles more times than I can count. Lockrites are a fairly simple install . Just follow the instructions. If you really want to do it right. Replace the pinnion pin and the thrust washers with new parts. Lockrites work a lot smoother with those parts replaced.

Dont under stand what you mean.... Lockrites simply replace the spider gears. You pull the pinion pin. take out the spiders and side gears, drop the C clips. pull the axel out a little and install the locker. Dont have to touch the ring or pinion. Carrier stays bolted in and intact.
Only time You have to pull the carrier if you have 4.56 gears because you cant slide the parts past the ring gear so you have to slide the carrier out a little.. But it does not change the pinnion or back lash settings.

I put one in my front 10 bolt with 4.10 gears and EVERYTHING slid right in with out pulling the carrier:D. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

From what I have done , all the GM 10 bolts didn't need the ring gear removed , factory up to 4.10 for sure . I did my 4.56 on the bench before bolting the carrier in so I will never really know on 10 bolt gears that big ( over 4.10 numerically ) .

All the Dana 44's I have done , have required pulling the damn ring gear , and that is with 3.73's and 4.10's .

Crap thats not good news. My buddy told me that when he installed it on his 4.10 d44 he didnt have to remove everything though. I'll just ask him to swing by when I buy it off him tomorrow.

Well sounds easy enough hey one more stupid question. I've always used a regular old Checker er whoever seal for the diff cover but my buddy swears up and down it'll leak and to just use rtv. Anyone comments, experiences, etc....

Just tore apart my 73 K5 front end 2 weeks ago to install a lockrite. Ring gear must come off to get the crosspin out. This was with 3:73 gears.

RTV every time , never bought a gasket . I use either the Copper colored stuff or The "Right Stuff" .

Black/Grey/white container aeresol spray black RTV . 11 bucks and never have to deal with spreading the proper bead again .

And it makes a Blue Torch Fab cover stick so you have to pry it off , even with the bolts removed .... and this cover is ****in' heavy
