I know I probably could've eventually found this with some searching, but I knew you guys could tell me pretty quick.

Just brought home the '71 Jimmy this morning. I want to drop the starter to have it tested while i'm already at the parts house buying battery cables and such. I've taken out all the bolts I can find and still can't get the thing off. This is my first truck to work on that has a manual trans. (SM465, mated to a crate SB350) I have taken off the two rearmost bolts, and the one that holds the support on the foremost part of the starter. Do I need to drop the inspection/dust cover? I'm in the dark now that this isn't an automatic trans. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

there are three bolts on it.2 from the front and 1 from under the cover going in the other way.or reversed from that.either way there are 3 bolts.and must take off cover to get it off.also congrats on having the truck i want.haha.i got a 72 blazer but was lookin for a jimmy when i bought it.

it should just be able to pry it out with a screwdriver behind the housing.there may be a stabilizer bracket at the front of the starter closer to the front of engine, but mine didnt have it.i have seen them on some auto trans and may have one but i dont think its stock if it does..it is not needed though.the starter is in pretty tight as the nosecone does sink into the bellhousing when its tightened up.
