Couldn't find anything specific in the search. I've got a 2wd POS 'burb that I'm pulling the 6.2l from to put in my 4wd gasser. Got the front end of the donor truck pretty well stripped down (no front clip). I was planning on pulling the engine & tranny (700r4) as a unit (since it was a nightmare to separate the two when I pulled the engine on my 4wd). Now that I can see that humongous 2wd crossmember I'm not so sure. IS it possible to lift the engine enough to clear the oil pan over the crossmember with tranny attached without crushing the top against the firewall?

It is possible, but it can be a battle at times. Nothing to difficult if you get everything disconnected the first time though.

You will want to pull the turbo and exhaust first from the look of that thing. Other than that, just making sure all of the wires and hoses are disconnected before lifting.

I'd take the crossmember out--I know it sucks ,but every time we were laxy at the junkyard and tried taking a motor & trans out without removing the crossmember it sucked --BUT,seeing you took the nose is off though, its a lot easier, also if you have one of those engine levelers on the hoist chain it makes it much easier too..you might be able to yank it straight out and only have a slight battle with the crossmember seeing the nose and rad suopport aint in the way..

was going to ask about that very thing actually. you mean the suspension crossmember, yes? does it just unbolt fairly easily or are there rivets to fuss with? cuz either way itll have to go back on so i can get this beast turned around to pull the rearend later. was hoping to avoid disabling the brakes just yet too.

what about the tranny crossmember? seems itd b easier to tilt the whole assemly up & over the front crossmember if its not there.

exactly. drop the trnny crossmember out. pull the tcase. and put the tail of the tranny on a floor jack or the like. I got a ford 6.0L diesel AND auto out of a 2006 F450 exactly like that. didn't have to pull the cab at all.

:eek1:

Man I can't even imagine pulling an engine from something that new. I look under the hood of my wife's '06 Frontier and it's just wires wires everywhere with a big heaping helping of useless plastic bits thrown in. These old rigs I can understand.

LOL now THAT'S the easy way to pull an engine! Too bad I still need to be able to move this beast around. Finally got the engine pulled without too much trouble tho, just had to remove the driver side motor mount & bracket... all while laying in a puddle of really narsty power steering fluid, mentally chanting "embrace the filth... embrace the filth..." :doah:
