im gettin ready to make my shock mounts for the front of my truck and i just got a qucik question.

is it best to have the shock mounted as far out on the axle and as verticle as possible for the best flex and ride?

Well.... keep in mind how the stock mounts are on theese trucks...slightly leaned back and out...mine are mounted more towards the tires, in fact on top of the inner C.....ive seen lots of ideas regarding this and its pretty much a matter of liking. whats the application?

for shocks to work best a vertical position is ideal up to 15* off vertical.
The farther out on the axle the more effective they will be.

they will be on a 79 k10 with 52's in the front, i was thinking of modifying my f250 shock towers to lean out alittle more so they were closer to being straight up but if they are suppose to be 15 degrees off i might leave them alone. and yea i was goin to mount them on the top of the axle by the inner c as well

here is what i was goin to try to do, bare with me im kinda rusty on paint lol

what do you guys think

The upper mount wont really matter, that one is just modified for clearance..the lower one is the one thats give the angle, just imagine how the suspension works and go from there.

they don't need to be 15* from verticle, they work pretty much just as efficient at 15* as they do straight up.

I mounted my Bilsteins vertical with the bottoms mounted on top of the "C". I messed around with extended mount options and kept running into clearance issues every which way I tried them. I finally got fed up and started with a clean sheet of paper...first step was deciding where I wanted the shocks vs. trying to use any existing mounts.

I ended up with this:

I just really don't like the leverage the super duty towers put on the frame. This was a fair amount of work, but I'm really pleased with it and it works well. I think it helps make the front frame more resistant to twist.

Interesting setup. Ever thought of mounting remote reservoirs on the "strut bar"? What the purpose of relocating the shocks anyways? What's wrong with the stock location?

My reservoirs are attached to the shock body, they're 5150's. If it had remote reservoirs I would mount them to the cross support.

The point is to get shocks that are long enough. Stock shocks are like limiting straps, and when shocks bottom or top out it often breaks stuff.

I'm sorry, and am in no way making fun of your paint skills, but does the far right picture look like someone with a stick up their butt?:D:D
