Quick welding question

It's gasless. So I need flux core or I don't need flux core? Maybe I'll just go buy a new spool of wire, since this wire was in it when I bought the welder from some guy online. I'll go buy some wire that's made for 22 gauge steel and see if that does me any good.

you need flux core. also there is no correct wire for 22 guage or and thickness, but a smaller wire will weld better with a small machine. i have only seem flux core in .035" so not sure if you will be able to find anything smaller

Yeah, the wire in the machine is .035" and is flux core. It says in the manual for 18g sheet metal I need to put the wire feed setting on 2 and leave the voltage on MIN. I'll try that next time and see how it comes out.

I've seen .030 flux core...

The series of tack welds is about the only way you'll get that welded. Keep tack welding it until you end up with a solid seam weld all around the patch.

Use a piece of scrap 22 guage to play with the wire speed until you can get a decent tack without burning through...then go back to your patch.

I'll buy some 18 gauge first. Then try messing with the settings.
