Racing/ speeding with your Blazer

160mph in a blazer on 33" tires, you would be lucky to be alive today. suv tires are not speed rated any thing close to that. not to mention what the wind could have done with the that truck.

I witnesed a '95 GMC Tahoe with 4" lift and 33" tires at 106mph the other day....in a 55mph zone. The guy said his g/f was in a hurry. For what, I don't know.
 
A friend of mine that competed in Top Truck a couple years back did 12.xx something in the quarter mile, at a little over a hunderd I think. The numbers are off a little, but fairly close.
This is with a 510 and 44 boggers in a SWB Chevy.

I had my 88 up to 120 on the way home from the Pocono Trail fest this year. I had 33's and 4.56's so the tach was pushing over 4000 and I decided I should probably back off a bit before my lifters came through my hood. I had no idea it could go that fast. Before I got my new 36's I used to drag all the time. I made a whooped firebird drop his tranny when he tried to downshift twice. I also pissed off several kids in their hondas and neons. I love the looks on their faces when two kids are ready to drag, and the big ass lifted truck in the third lane blows em both away

The 36" TSL's are way too heavy for that now... oh well, I had fun while it lasted!

All I have to do is get her up to about 4000 on a Saturday night and some high schoolers are sure to think that I want to race at the next light. I'm actually pretty surprised by how well my hand-siped all terrains grab the asphalt because off the line I can jump right out in front of little cars. Of course I couldn't do that nearly as well with the 3.08's on 33's.

But I've had it to 100, but I don't do it anymore for fear of damage to my wallet.

Now my GTP will hit 150, but where in the world am I going to do that. I've had it over 120, which isn't that fast outright, except that there was less than 1 mile between the stop signs.

But that's what cars are for. Not trucks. But Stephen did get under 14 seconds in the 1/4 on 42's or something. Wow!

My truck is pretty slow... 80 is about the tops and most days i keep a nice 70. Now some of the cars and other toys are a different story. I know for sure I have been caught going 130 in a 1970 Z28, at lest that is what the officer said as i was put in the back of his squad car. I also have been up in that neck of the woods on a friends crotchrocket years ago... man that was scary! I though I got hit in the chest by a bird but it was a tinny pebble

The Z story reminded me of a story.... A buddy of mine got caught on I-25, between Denver and Colorado Springs one Sunday morning several years ago. He was driving a '72 Trans Am, with the 455-SD. The Colorado State Police helicopter clocked him at 153 mph. That little stunt cost him his drivers license for 3 years.

I rode shotgun in a lifted 76 Chevy PU with 44's and a 540ci at 120 (or so) MPH down Interstate 5 in San Diego a few years back. What made it scary was no so much the speed but the sound of the tires screaming up to the over passes then a moment of silence at each end of the overpass where the lip would kick us off the ground. It sounds a bit like "RRRRRRRRRRRRRUT.......RRUT...RARRRRRRRRR". I have to admit I was pretty nervous and wasn't having as much fun as I expected I would.

Thats pretty good because my buddy who built a drag race blazer, 86 2 wd, lowered 2 inches, had a 454, blower and a 150 shot of nitrous and it ran high 11s in the 1/4 mile. It had a hard time running because of the weight and the aerodynamics.

The other day this guy cut me off in a riceburner real bad, and I follored it and followed him, and had the needle buried easily, was going pretty fast, have no idea how fast though, when it says 85, I'm going 76, but I was haulin', probably goong about 100, and the floor started rattling and making wierd noises from the tranny area, so I let him go.
This one wasn't in my Blazer but once I was in dad's Acura, and a riced out Integra wanted to race on the highway, it was pretty clear, so I raced him, even though he was going a lot fsater than me to begin with, he still beat me by a lot, but he had some huge clouds of smoke coming out of his exhaust, so I think in the end, I really won, no race is worth blowing your engine...anyway, after it was over, looked at the speedo, and was going 120-125, then looked down the the service road, and saw a white Crown Vic, maybe an unmarked cop, and slowed down real quick...

I'm not going to "argue with math" or call you a liar or anything...I just feel it relevant to bring up speedometer accuracy. I read a test report a few years ago about how inaccurate speedometers can become at higher speeds...even in cars that are meant to be driven fast. And I mean more than just 3 or 5 percent.
If they're dogging on sportscars for this problem, how much can you trust a Cherokee speedometer around 100mph? Just something to consider.

I drove my brothers 2wd 96 gmc pick up with a vortec 350 that was preogrammed had a chip, KN genneration II, intake shift kit, and 373 gears. I got that thing up to 129mph on the freeway could have kept going but the stupid thing shuts of at 129. those vortecs are fast with a little work done to them.
 
My Blazer jumps out of the hole pritty good with the 4.56's
but i don push it on the top end very hard. It gets to be a hand-
full when you climb on the brakes while your haulin ass.
When I had the stock highway gears in my 68 Mustang I buried the 120 speedo while in 2nd (auto). The tach said
a little less than 5 grand-shifted into D and it quit pulling.
A lack lack of horsepower is to blame. With the same motor
and 4.56's we're all done at about 100...-Jim

What makes you think that you need that much horsepower to go that fast?

I don't know or want to know my top speed. I had it to at least 100 MPH (pulling away from my sister, she was doing over 90 MPH) the other day. I have had it faster than that too and didn't even realize it.

Built motor, 700R4, 4.10 gears, 35" tires.

bah, tricking a blazer out for speed is like making a k5 into a low-rider...not only sickening, but counter to the machine's natural order.

i've hit al least 90 in the blazer(91', 350, 3.73, 32's)
hit 110 in my moms stratus(the v-6 model) it shuts off at 110 other wise i could of kept pushing it
and i've gotten to 100 with ease in my dads 2001 silverado(327) and the other day i just compleatly roasted the doors off of a taco, that damn truck is soo fast i want the sme motor for my truck

I rarely see over 70 MPH. I know I can go as fast as I'd want to drive the thing, but speed doesn't really exite me.

HAHA! Is it any wonder I love my truck? I know it will do over 100mph. I can bury the needle way past 100mph on the speedo. Course I run normal sized tires.....
not to mention I believe my speedo is about 5-7 mph slower than I'm actually going.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by Ancient_4X4 on 12/02/01 05:30 PM.</FONT></P>
