Radiator shroud

I have gone through this on my 70 K5 and my brothers 70 K20. Like they said the shroud is upside down. The flats with no holes go into clips that would be on the bottom of the core support. The radiator you have is correct for a 4 core.

I fortunately had a set of 4 core upper brackets that worked with my radiator tanks. For my brother they were on back order so I took his set and a set I had in my spare parts. Cut the two and welded them together to make the correct width. Then we cut the new rubber gaskets in half and glued them into the corners so it secures the corners of the radiator tanks.

I ended up going with electric fans after I installed an aluminum radiator and motor swap. I made a frame that uses the stock mounting points and he went with the stock fan shroud for his 350.

I have had to do the same thing for the radiator upper radiator mounts on my sisters 63 c10 also.

I attached a pic that has the lower clip in it. It’s from when I mocked up my winch plate.

Hers a pic of the top of the radiator. I have an LMC radiator cover plate bolted in between the upper mounts but it should give you an idea.

How far in does the fan go in the shroud?
I'm wondering if I'll have an issue since the previous owners of this thing threw parts from all kinds of trucks on it. For example the heads are from 1975, the water pump is a long pump but from what I understand in 1970 it should be a short pump but I don't have the proper accessory brackets for a short pump.

You are correct that it should have a short water pump.
When I went to a long version with serpentine on the old '72, I trimmed the fan shroud since it wasn't perfect. I don't remember if it was 1.5", or slightly more. It could depend on how your body is sitting in relation to the engine.
Your fan spacer or clutch can make a difference too.

Ideally the middle of the fan blade should be at the edge of the shroud. A 1/2" in either direction probably not a huge deal. Esp in Oregon

One last question. My fan pulls air from the radiator instead of pushing air on it. Is this correct?

Also my 4 core support pieces will be here tomorrow. 50 bucks total after shipping for the set from classic industries

Yes, that way when you are going down the road, the air flows through.

update and question. I got that 4 core bracket kit. how are the bottom ones removed? is there a bolt im supposed to take off somewhere or do they just sit on the radiator support?

There is either rivet, or a machine screw under the rubber. Pull the rubber up and out.
