Looking at my Ram 2500 with coilovers and straight axles and wondering why not use a set of those axles in a K5?

They also have the pinion input on the top of the pumpkin instead of the bottom.

I realize of course it’s driver side drop so what is the remedy for that?

What other challenges might make this impractical?

Some benefits of course are availability of components such as gearing and brakes.

If those are the center disconnected axles, take videos of when they explode

Geez Tucker it’s too early for logic

Didn’t that message you sent me say 2500 and up on the newer axles were no longer CAD?

Apparently 2002 - 2012 does not have it and then the newer models have it with electric control.

Could it be eliminated?

I imagine but you probably are looking at replacing the shafts with one piece and hubs to disengage outside

This is probably why the furt high pinion 60s are popular for the driver drop

And as @82355 would say, you can break a D60 with a stock TBI engine

How hard is it to swap the tubes and axles to the opposite side?

I’m prejudice against furts.

Dynatrac has a ball joint upgrade and manual lock hubs.

Also I believe a wheel bearing upgrade.

What year? 02 is a non cad axle but it's still a low pinion 60. I think its 32 spline inner shafts.

03-12 is a gooder axle overall but it has 33 spline inner shafts and is essentially a 14b sf but a front. It has side adjusters instead of shims which is cool. The ball joints are a common wear item as well as the wheel hubs going out. If you shave 4500 pounds off of them and put a k5 on top I bet they have a much different service life. It will require 17" wheels to clear the big brakes. It also has 1485 wheel joints which is the aam version of the dana 1480. Same same really.
The 11.5 rear is legit huge and swap that in.

If I were to put them under a truck it would be with better ball joints and a free spin kit but by the time you do that you could have swapped in an 05+ ford 60 and save a couple grips.

I looked into these. My buddy has one.

I don't remember the issues with em but there were enough I turned away a free axle .

It’s a good axle for a late model SAS , let’s you keep the anti lock brakes .

They are better then the Dana Axles they replaced .

Nice big brakes! My 1-ton dodge on 37x13.50 ‘s will out stop my 91 v3500 on 35’s with 4-wheel discs and the dodge is heavier by about 1500 lbs

Decent selection of gears and lockers I have Eaton E-locker in the front of my 2012

Free spin kit and good ball joints are about the only big costs with these things

ford driver drop 205

and you couldn't pay me to run b/j axles over my king pin 60's .
I would totally build an 05+ superduty 60f for a wheeler. New 60s are way better than a gm60 all day long. That being said I still built a passenger drop low pinion leaf sprung kingpin axle for my dd lol
