The RamJet 350 Curve is actually pretty decent. 340 at 1500, not too shabby for a SB.

there is nothing bad about its #s, it has way more grunt than my mild 350 does... I'm just sayin' that if I have 300 ft pounds on tap, I'd like it before 4000 rpm. I tend to crawl and rarely just "hammer down" to get over stuff. I'm not sure how often I'd get to use all that tq unless I started doing mud for some reason. lol!

That's exactly what I'm trying to say. Thanks for putting it on the trail and not just the numbers for a engine.

I just bought my Ram Jet 350 thats being installed this weekend...hopefully I can join the conversation intelligently next week :-)

Did you really ask if it was too much? A rocket powered Miata in the hands of a 16 year old girl is the only case where "too much" can even be uttered.:shame: :screwy:

The ram jet is a good choice in motors. Really perfect for a DD. Thats an extra 100ft/lb of torque and around 160hp over stock. Not to mention that you now have FI and should get some better mileage. If I wasnt a power hungry bastard with an itch for a 383 I would have done it. Oh yeah, also didnt quite have the money...

thanks all for the replys I am looking at maybe a vortec 350 with an edelbrock flo-pro system..

Both about the same money in the end......

I want FI

what do you guys think ramjet or vortec flo-pro

You know you can buy the complete Ram Jet FI manifold kit (GM part # 12498032). It includes everything except the ECM and wiring harness. It is designed to be used with an aftermarket ECM - the Haltech E6X would be a good choice since it is PC programmable, will run injectors AND ignition, and includes everything you need. Slap that on top of part # 12498772 (ZZ383 crate long block) and you would make some real suds. 425HP at 5400 and 449lb-ft at 4500, but the motor makes 400+ ft-lbs from 2000RPM on up. Withe the Ram Jet manifold the torque band would likely be even flatter. That would be a nice setup if you can drop the coin :deal:

Damn, damn, damn!!

That sounds like a nice set up!

One question, though:

Does the ZZ383 have Vortec Heads  ?

I just finished a 48 Chevy Fleetline with a the Ramjet 350 and its a daily driver. It is perfect for that vehicle. It has great throttle response and adequate power and gets pretty good mileage. I would say go for it.

Damn, the Ramjet intake/plenum/dist alone is $1300 from GMPD, which I'm sure is relatively inexpensive compared to aftermarket intakes/rails, but still a fair number of dollars!

If you could get a great deal on the above components, I suspect you could run it with a TBI or TPI harness pretty affordably but would obviously need to tune it.

For a long time I was set on the ramjet 350 for my crawler. But after thinking about it for a long time I decided against it and now I have a 2002 6.0 ready to go in. Got it for less than 2K with harness and everything. Got about 1000 more in custom programming and fuel stuff and has about the same hp and tq numbers as the ramjet for a lot less. It is also lighter, but it is a little harder to put in.....just something to think about. Also since the 6.0 came in trucks it makes good torque down low which will be good for a crawler.
