Ram now has a light diesel

I wouldn't buy new either. They depreciate like hell for 3 years then level off a bit. Something that is 3 years old and only has 30-40k on the odometer is like new to me. :) I'd have to be making a sheet ton more money before I would consider a new vehicle.

New Suburbans are like 50k, but you can get one 3 years old for 25k. Been looking...

I like going to the auto show so I can see what I will own in 5-7 years!

Was that the 1500vs2500 comparison? If so I was impressed with that article as well, they even overloaded the recommended towing capacity of the 1500 by a few hundred pounds to get apples to apples towing compared to the 2500 Cummins setup.
I think they will sell like hotcakes as well as the Cummins/Nissan coming out, if they can get mid to upper 20's out of that. The Nissan has much more power, but still 1/2t truck, Not sure of the GVW of it though. If the power is between the 2500's and the VM engine, it might not sell to good without the drivetrain/chassis to make it worth while.
This new Nissan is supposed to be designed around the Cummins engine though.

Watching Mythbusters, they had a "Mythbusters" Jeep grand cherokee commercial where they were 'testing the myth of diesels'.

 Someone's pushing their new engine. 30 mpg, 730 miles. So... guess it has approx 24gal tank.

Test Drove an EcoDiesel today

Well I test drove an EcoDiesel today. Why? because why not?

I'm overall impressed with it. It felt like it had more power than the Hemi, so it's definitely no slouch. The dial shifter 8 speed threw me off quite a bit and I'm really not sold on a 100% electric shifter. It was really quiet and you can hardly hear the turbo or any diesel clatter at all. Definitely a smooth engine with a nice flat torque curve.

I wasn't sure if the 3.0L used a DEF tank, it does, it even has a dedicated dash gauge for it. I feel like it'd be better suited hidden in the DIC rather than a dedicated analog dash gauge for it.

It's a nice engine but just like its 6.7L big brother, I'm still not 100% sold on the truck around it.

A friend has a new ram and it has that dial shifter. I thought it was really lame.

My sister had a '63 Dodge Dart with the push button shifter as pictured in the top photo!..

My older brother quickly learned if you pushed the "1" button, power braked it,get the tires spinning--then pushed "N" ,then "2" ,real fast, and then "3",you could get rubber out of all 3 gears--with a 225 slant six!....:haha:...back then the Torque-Flight could take such abuse repeatedly without failure, unlike todays fragile overdrives...

Do we REALLY need 8 speeds?...I'd think the tranny would be in-between shifts so much the clutches would smoke up in no time?..:dunno:

What's the difference with a dial are a lever? It does the same thing. You pick a letter and go.

Idk. Just feels weird. I like being able to grab a shifter i guess...

I know it would suck in any situation where you need to go from drive to reverse multiple times... Having to reach up by the radio and twist a nob

They shift really fast and smooth. Keeps you in peak torque more.

There was a lot of shifting but it did stay right in the power band. I think it might get annoying driving through some winding mountain roads dropping 3 or 4 gears every hill and turn.

I'd much prefer a lever with a physical connection to the transmission.
