Rear Axle in 1974 Blazer

It's going to be on the right tube on top or aft side. It will be a stamped #

it must be on top because I haven't seen in on the aft...guess I need a mirror...I'll be under there again tomorrow looking...

that's big enough to see for sure...I'll get it out in the driveway in the sun tomorrow and find it. I don't know what those numbers mean though, they don't match the RPO numbers I've seen

I had to wire brush both axle tubes with a drill powered brush before I found the codes on most of the axles in my older trucks,and ones we'd pull at the salvage yard to sell to customers,in order to identify the ratio and year the axle was..the stampings were not very deep and rust almost erased them too..

In more than one instance we found some diffs that were known to be original to the vehicle,but didn't jive with the years the GM parts or Hollander books listed,in other words,the diffs were not the same year as the trucks were...also saw more than a few 12 bolts supposedly original in trucks they weren't supposed to be in also..
I'm guessing GM had a few warehouses of leftover diffs they wanted to use up ?..

looks like KBH W058 2 77 ? are those sevens at the end or strike marks?

I'll be danged...THANKS!!!
KBH W058 2

KBH = K10 - 3.73 gear ratio
W = Warren
58th day of 1974 (February 27, 1974)

2 = 2nd shift crew

The only flaw is that it assumes you know the year. KBH covers many years as 3.73 gears K10

There are casting codes on the the center section aft-side corner webs that you were looking for that show cast dates and other numbers that I have not investigated much.
Have to do some more research.

I don't think it's an exact science but gets you close. I believe the center sections are cast then at some point the tubes are added and built for specific applications with the tube stamping added.

If your still interested, take a look at the corner webbings for casting #'s on the housing.
By the vent tube or one of the other corners there should be a 3 or 4 digit code starting with a letter then #'s
Letter is the month, then the day( 1 or 2 digits ) last is the year.
Also if it has the original ring gear the date codes will be on the ring gear along with the part#
