Am bored and thought I'd whore out some pics of my mostly completed rear bumper and tire carrier. Need to draw up some brackets in cad and have Kert cut some mounts for jerry can holder still. The tire mount flange is offset on the receiver stock to accommodate different tire sizes and the receiver has multiple holes for different rim/backspacing.

How does it open? I am just starting mine so I would like to see it.

exactly. Its a little heavy to lift but thats why I made the stinger part taller, for more leverage. Could have made it a foot shorter if wanted. Was going to make a swing out style using a D44 spring and hub that I cut the wheel mounting surface off of but the more I thought about it this style would be alot strong for bashing into stuff and all.

how is the visablity when wheeling? backing up?

why do you think I made it strong? :D

Can't really see past it too well. I plan on an on board camera though like our Commander has mounted on the carrier or just below it.

I like it, do you have any pics of it open? Also where are you planning on placing the gas can mounts? Great job

no pics open, I will next time. Gas cans will go on either side of the tire on the latch bars

are you thinkin about putting a winch or anything else back there also?

i left a spot back there for a possible rear winch if I want to later.

that would look real good with a winch. looks great though! i love how it ties in with the sliders, looks real clean

grrrr... idea thief! that's exactly how i plan to do mine! :D

i'm hoping february will see my bumper build...

I really dig the look of this style, but as you said the lifting part seems like it would kinda suck with a big tire. I don't like the lack of visibility either. I have thought about making one too but something keeps stopping me. I like the "TIRE GATE" design, the prerunner or the flat design. Problem with theirs is lifting a tire up to put it in the gate would suck and the prerunner one impeeds visibility too since the tire is at an angle.

The flat design fixes the visibility issue though. But, the fact that is swings about a tire diameter into the bed area means you lose storage space and your rig can no longer be weather proof. It would be open in the back for the most. This is NOT good for theft reasons, and rain ofcourse. My tirs will not fit behind the rear bench seat either and I don't want it there anyways. I don't know how I want to do a rear bumper just yet.

i also like blazenoffroads rear tire carrier. the swing out is nice looking and looks to be very functional

but can you imagine trying to put a 40" tire onto a swing out? i don't think i could accurately lift a tire that size up onto a few lugs on a swing out. my aim would have to be pretty precise! that's why i like the swing down design - i can lift a tire up on a swing down style pretty easy, and i can also get a tire onto the hub much easier that way!

also, i plan to mount a small hand-wound winch to it that i can then attach the cable to the cage and wind it up as needed, if it's too heavy. ofcourse, if you don't have a cage, it doesn't help much. then, after the tire is up, detach the cable/line from the cage and close the window.

I love my Blazenoffroad tire carrier. Never had any trouble with it except it got a little difficult to line the holes for the bolts in closed position, well, at least for one person though.

MNorby, I like your design, it ties well into the rear sliders. Good job, man!

thanks, I used a few ideas from blazinoffroad and poisenspyder's carriers when I made mine.

the small hand winch idea is awesome, i bet that would help lifting a tire with rim full of air haha. i would like to see how you do it
