This issue has been driving me crazy. '03 2500HD crewcab with power locks and remote entry. About a year ago the rear doors would sporadically not unlock electrically (remote, electric switch on the front door, or automatically when you put the trans in park). It was a pain reaching through the front door to unlock them manually (no key slot on the outside), especially when carrying a baby or anything else.

There is one relay for the rear door unlock, and one for the rear door lock. I thought I had the problem figured out as just being a bad relay as I swapped the two around the now the rear doors would not lock, so the problem followed the relay. I then bought a new relay (not OEM, but what the local autoparts place had on a Sunday) and the problem went away for around a year. A couple of weeks ago the problem came back, again sporadically, and stayed with the generic relay (if it was in the unlock slot they wouldn't unlock, if I swapped it to the lock slot they wouldn't lock). I tried the same brand of relay first and it didn't help as the problem was still sporadic (sometimes it was fine for a couple of days, sometime for a couple of hours). I then bought a different brand relay and no luck, then stole an OEM relay which was the exact same part number out of my wife's '06 Chevy car........and still the same problem. What has me stumped is that the problem seems to follow the relay. If it was always the doors not unlocking then I would look elsewhere....but it's either locking or unlocking depending on where I have the replacement relay (now 4 different relays....3 generics and 1 OEM).

Any ideas?

I'm not convinced it's a relay problem. 4 different relays have the same sporatic issue, and all 4 work if I put them in a different location or vehicle.

So you've isolated it's a relay problem...kinda. It seems to be some of the wiring from the relay. Being sporatic like it is, I would suspect a grounding issue.

I found a couple diring diagrams. They are specific to wiring some aftermarket alarm or something, but may help.

I had the same issue with an 04 yukon.
Dealer told me it was a burnt wiring harness ($950). I told them to pound sand.
I did some checking & cleaned the drivers master switch.
I havent had a problem since.
