Im getting a popping feeling when taking a sharp turn. The less sharper of a turn i take, the less pronouced the popping is. The thing is it doesnt happen everytime. It happens every now and then. Even when taking a really sharp turn i dont get the popping everytime. It usually only happens after i pull out or into a parking spot or a turn like that. It only happens at a very very low speed. Anyone got any ideas on what it might be? I took a picture of my gears when i was resealing the rear end and i have this differential in it, can anyone tell me if its just the differential i have in the truck reacting to a sharp turn? I bought the truck with it in there already so i have no idea what it is.

Might want to move this over to the garage too and see if you get more answers. it looks like a limited slip to me but I'm not sure, could be a locker. Sorry I'm not more help.

Did you put in limited slip additive in the oil when you filled it?

Yeah, that looks like some form of a limited slip (could be an alternative locker from a smaller company though)...do some research online to see if you can identify what you have. When I was still driving my blazer on the road (it's a trailer queen now) my Detroit in the rear would act very similar to what you described. Usually going around a sharp corner faster I wouldn't feel anything but slower and there was some pops from the rear-end. It was pretty erratic and wasn't consistent at all. And that was with a Detroit (Detroit's still have a "ratcheting" function to them so they are not like a complete spool or welded diff). Not a big deal at all...I would rather have the traction aid and deal with a couple pops from the rear-end every once in a while...I wouldn't worry about it if it were my truck...but that's just me

No i did not but my buddy told me to get some so i'm gonna try that out this weekend. The cover is still leaking so i'm assuming my vent hose is clogged. This was my third time resealing it in a month. This time with a new cover and it keeps leaking. So i will be resealing it again. Also used 80w 90 instead of 85w 90 i usually use. Think that has something to do with the popping?

Also if it's a sheetmetal cover use a socket and a ballpeen hammer to reverse any dimpling on the surface around the bolt holes, so that it pulls tight.

That looks like an Auburn Posi unit.

My truck sounded like it had some broken gears for a couple years, popping and crunching around corners since I bought it. I finally got around to pulling the cover and checked it out, and found the same Auburn Diff. Fresh fluid with Posi additive later, it's whisper quiet and works MUCH better offroad.

Get some posi additive in there and I bet it'll be like brand new.

I'm gonna buy some from orielys tomorow and put some in there. I filled it with a little less than 2 quarts last weekend. Think if i put 4 ounces of the posi additive in there it would be too much? Was gonna reseal it again this weekend but dont really want to cause i unclogged the vent today and now its not leaking.
