Hello all,

I know its not the greatest pic but i am hoping someone may know what it is.
I bought this rear end out of a backyard thinking i would save some cash, my problem is that i cant figure out what kind of rear end it is. I m trying to get 4:56's for it but dont know what rear end to buy for. I cant see any numbers on the pumpkin that would shed any light either. Hope someone can help.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks steve! In comparing the pic looks like the "small? coorprate 14 bolt.
Your Jimmy is AWSOME!!!! wish mine was older with the full convertable top! Nice job!
Do you know if they make a disk brake conversion? if so how involved is the install?
Thanks again for the chart..... very helpfull

  • Well the pic isn't clear enough for me to count, but a 12 bolt will have 12 bolts holding the diff cover on, and a 14 bolt will have 14. If it's a stock rear axle it's most likely a 12 bolt, unless we're not talking about a K5 that you got it from.

  • Thanks for the compliments!:D

  • There are a few companies that make disc brake brackets and then use front calipers (if it's a 12 bolt, RuffStuff makes these brackets and then you use calipers and rotors for a '75 3/4ton Chevy 4x4)

  • Install isn't too complicated, just take off everything until you get to the mounting flange and bolt these on. ^^

That does look like a 14SF (semi-floater) to me. Dunno what's available for disc conversions, but it makes for a pretty good axle as long as you're not going too big on tire size. It's MUCH stronger than a 10B or 12B.

Well there you go. I've never seen one in person. Thanks for chiming in guys.

Thats definitely a 14bolt semi floater.
Keep in mind that the bolts for the ring gear have left hand threads, if you wanna change the gears.

Thanks everyone lots of good info! There was mention of tire size..... I am running 37 inch boggers...... am i running to tall for the 14SF?

Well, I guess you'll find out, now won't you?:D My buddy flogged and jumped and beat on a burb for over a year with 37" Baja Claws and stock 10b axles. None of us could believe how long it lasted, but it did finally break. The 14sf is much stronger, but boggers are aggressive, so it kinda depends on how much HP you've got, what kind of wheeling you do, how you drive, etc. If you're playing at Glamis with a near stock 350, I'd say you'll be fine. If you're rockcrawling with a built BB, then maybe not fine. A lot of guys swear by those axles, and you can always upgrade to alloy shafts if you're worried about it.

Well thats good info! I am running a close to stock 350. I have an intake manifold and a 650 carb (i think its a 650) (unless my buddy nabbed it for his project.... bastard!) prolly throw some headers on it but thats it. Not so much in glamis but not to say i wont go with it. I mostly trail ride. Went down the mojave trail last week from barstow to laughlin with a bunch of buddies. I just want to be able to through the camping gear in it with some gas cans and spare parts and go! The project is getting closer to completion!

my buddy runs 38.5" boggers on his 14sf in his burban, and hasnt had any problems with the rear end yet. cant say the same for the front 10 bolt!
