Hey guys, my electric rear window works, only if I lay the tailgate down, wonmt go up and down with the gate vertical. Any ideas on a fix?

I would start by checking for a broken wire where the wiring goes in the tailgate. Try moving the wires while operating the key.

Hopefully you clicked the latch to the closed position to get the window to move with the gate down. The reason i say this is because there is a switch inside the gate on the drivers side to prevent the window from working with the gate down. If you did not click the latch to the closed position then I would guess there is a problem with this switch.

The wires that plug into either the motor or the switch on the side of tailgate are most likely reversed. Me and my dad were making sure the switch was working one day and we put it back together and did the same thing urs is doing. Switched the wires around and it workd like normal.

I'm operating the switch from inside the cab, I'll look and see if the wires are reversed though

When you opened the gate did you click the driver side latch to the closed position or did you just drop the gate and try with the switch on the dash?

My buddy dropped the gate and I worked the dash switch, I'll have a more comprehensive look over things tomorrow now that I know about this tailgate up/ tailgate down switch.

If wired correctly and the switch works it should only go up or down when it is closed. Unless you move the lock on the driver side were the switch is making it think it is closed...If the wires are reversed on the switch or were the switch connects to the motor it will think it is open when its shut and shut when its open....
