hi all! we need to remove the glass in the rear hard top or of 1988 K5 blazer. i am sure many of you have done this. can someone explain how to remove them and any tools needed? any tips or tricks?

There are quite a lot of steps involved, but on a high level:

  • lower window and remove the long inner and outer brush/guide/slide trim pieces that the window rides on at the top of the gate. Mine were very brittle and crumbled to shit when I started pulling them out.
  • raise window while supporting it so it doesn't scrape on the gate, maybe put some masking tape on each side just in case
  • remove the cap pieces from either side of the tailgate top edges
  • unbolt the bottom of the window from the mechanisms on the lower end
  • wiggle wiggle wiggle that glass out

Various picks and flat pry-type bars are handy for trim removal
You can unhook the cable from the motor and clamp a drill onto the cable, then use the drill to spin the cable and raise/lower the window.
All the weatherstripping and trim pieces are not cheap, but likely all need to be replaced. Consider pricing out all that stuff and ordering it ahead of time.

Side windows. I found some stuff but would love to hear from someone who has done it themselves
