Well my trucks down with engine problems and I was bored today so I started fabbing the rear bumper I have been collecting metal for .I got the stock bumper off but noticed that with the new mounts I plan to make the original bolts that are used to hold the tension on the springs for the tailgate are gonna be in the way .Just looking for idea of how some of you may have dealt with this problem.I thought about ditching the springs all together but man that thing is heavy without em.

The way I have mine designed I will cut my mounts to go around the spring bolts. I may have to modify the mounts, or drill an extra hole in the frame to allow lots of load handling.

I used the stock brackets and then took some diamond plate to cover the gap like the stock filler did. With out it I got all kinds of crap on the back and window. On the brackets we welded metal to make it flat on ends. Works great and held too. When my rig broke down they towed it ass up on sling and bumper did super

Jus dump em. I had the same concerns when I got my custom bumper. There was no way around it. I dont know if you can fab up some lil shock thingys that would work, not sure if there is enuff room to the side of the tailgate. But I yanked or more like cut mine and like others have stated you get use to it. Jus cant let the tailgate fall when you open it. I tell ya, use your tailgate for a year without them and then go to one that has them, its nite and day. lol. But yeah, you get use to it, no worries.
