Rear window? and pinion yoke?

#1 does the rear window at full down, still stick up a little out of the gate a little? IF so has anyone else devised a protective guard of some sort that would protect the glass when hauling say plywood or 2x4's???

#2 I got my rear end completely pulled apart last night. I noticed that the pinion yoke looks to have a pinion seal guard attached to it with what looks to be a weight. Is this thing balanced?? The guard on mine looks a little contorted. Was wondering if I should replace it it or the whole thing depending on its seperability.

On that note, does anyone have a "GOOD" 10 bolt pinion yoke?

Will work for beer, parts and tools.

2. I dont think the yolk is balanced,if the yolk has a grove on it where the seal touches it I would buy a new yolk.Mine was like this,when I replaced the seal it still leaked a small amount.If the guard is not rubbing the seal I wouldn't worry about it.

#1 My window usually goes all the way down....

#2 There is a "shield" on the yoke. If I remember correctly, I think there is some sort of weight on there, but I have swapped or switched them and never marked where the weight was. So far so good....

I dont have a spare yoke for a 10 bolt, but the one off a 12 bolt with a big u-joint is the same and you can get a new Yoke from the dealer for around $50-60...

# 1= both of the ones I have owned sticks up about 1/8". Never tried to make anything to cover it. I had a sheet of plywood in the rear. Now I jus t put it in the trailor......

Ok , as far as the pinion yoke. Mine has no grooves or nothing like that. Just saw that weight and saw that one side was a little dented, but it doesn't rub or have any other defects. SO Im assumings its good.

Now this window thing, I have seen many mixed views here. All the way down, 1 inch, 1/8 inch, etc etc. Mine sticks up little less than an inch, and its slow going up, then a little over half way up it bangs really load and then continues on up. Basically I need to take it apart and operate. But I was just wanting to know if it is supposed to go all the way down.

I've worked with military blazers (CUCV M1009 1984-1987) for years and they all stick out, some more than others. The standard fix was to bolt a small piece of angle iron across the tailgate to protect the glass when it's retracted.

My window stops 1/2 way up and i have to push it in to get it up the rest of the way. To fix this.. take off the cover on the inside of the tail-gate and pull the crossmember that holds the motor on. Give it a good tug up, so it moves about an inch. It's caused from standing in the center of the gate when open. My window also sticks up a little too
