Receiver Shackles

Need yalls recommendations on what kind of receiver shackle I can use with a Keeper Recovery Strap. I have a 2" receiver. Im not to familiar with these things but Im assuming you take the pin out so you can put the shackle through the strap right? I was thinking of something like this

Make sure you get a good pin and not a bolt like some people ive seen. Use grade 8 bolts with washers to mount the receiver too.

Yup youre right there, so that pin comes out right then you put the shackle through the strap then put the pin back in? Thats what I really need to know.

I've got one like you posted (mine is a Warn), plenty strong. I've used mine and it shows no signs of fatigue.

The insert can stay in the receiver. The clevis is what you need to take out to put the strap in.

Also be sure the pin is threaded and not held in with a cotter key. Should the pin fail any extra hardware on it will turn into a projectile. The pin should thread in to the opposite side of the clevis or a nut.

I just got one, I like it. I got an aluminum one off ebay for $24.

"new smoke grey powder coated 2" receiver shackle bracket with d-ring.
This unit is made of 6061 heat treated billet aluminum "

Seller on ebay is 4x4crawler - I got this and a billet fairlead for synthetic line.

I have the reciever shackle myself, but I prefer a regular ball mount and a 1" or larger clevis to that small one that fits in my reciever.

I suppose it won't matter once I get my bumpers.

For free you can stick the loop end of your strap in the reciever tube and stick your pin through it. Has to be at least as strong as that thing /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Can't do that with a 3" or larger strap.

Wouldnt use that method all the time. If you pull to the side even a little the strap will wear on the hitch and cut the strap after a couple times.

depends on how the end of your straps are made. IF they are straigt sewn, looped, or folded loops, (all non technical names!). THe folded loop style are commonly found in winch straps/tree savers, and any of the more "high end" straps. The cheaper "keeper" straps, and anything you find at walmart/autozone/pep boys will have just a fold over, which is already a little tight sqeeze at 2", it makes it darn near difficult to attach it quickly with a 3" wide strap.

AH, I can too, I just didn't like sticking it in the receiver then putting the pin in, I was afraid if it swept/slipped back and forth much the inside edge of the receiver would cut it if it was pulling at any kind of an angle... I worried about my locking pin bending also since the weight was centered in the middle... the receiver shackles at least distribute the pressure to the whole pin /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif
