One day when I was walking thru a favorite salvage yard,I came upon the owner ,who was driving the forkloader--he said "Hey,I'm looking for a trailer hitch ball mount for a receiver hitch for my camper--seen any in your travels??.....I said "yeah,in fact I was hoping to find a receiver hitch for my 82 GMC here--the two like new ones I had given to me were too wide, they were for 88 and newer trucks..I told him I saw a ball mount on a Ford Econoline not far away, and he told me to hop in the cab of the loader and show him where it was..
We came up to the van,and I hopped off the lodaer and put a thick chain onto the ball mount--he back up,the van was just dragged backwards..he tugged on it several times, each time a bit harder than before..still refused to budge...it had a pin in it,that I removed easily after the first tug,but that thing refused to budge!..not to be defeated, the guy lifts the forks up and the back of the van came 5 feet off the ground, and he lutches the lodaer backwards..and keeps raising the forks higher,to no avail--finally,the van is completely suspended off the ground, dangling nose down ,haning by the chain!..he uses the hydraulics to "jiggle" the van up and down until the loaders rear tires started bouncing off the ground!...finally he says "F" this thing!--there HAS to be another one in here somewhere!..and we go search for another one out of the 1000's of vehicles there...didn't see ant ball mounts but lots of receivers!...
As I was walking out of the junkyard headed home,I saw a receiver hitch lying in a trucks bed right near the gate--with a ball mount!..the owner was just driving up with the loader to go close the gate, and I pointed it out to him--he walks over to it and says "hmmmph!--probably never get this one loose either!--and he pulls the pin out,and it came out with his bare hands!..

...I lucked out too,the hitch measured up to be the width I needed, and he said "just TAKE it!--you helped me enough today--if you want that ball mount off the van, come back in the morning...
I climbed under the van the next day (in the rain!) and the ball mount was able to be wiggled around in the receiver tube some--about ten good whacks with a 5 lb ball pein hammer and it came flying out like a bullet!...
I nearly busted both my shins on a trailer ball mount before, and I also had one stolen while my truck was parked at Walmart--so I dont leave them in if I'm not towing --and I grease the snot out of them when I do put them in the hitch..I tow something about once every 5-10 years, but like having a hitch--"just in case"...never know when you'll need to haul something or if you might get a free trailer,etc..
