that is what was in my truck

Ok, thanks for taking a look. What are the symptoms of worn out leaf spring bushings?

Wes not to jump on you, GM loves to reuse codes for some stupid reason, but in the square body age they are limited slip differentials with clutches. The new 10.5 stuff doesn't have clutches and doesn't need additives.
Did you read the gm service bulletin? I know the date is not shown but

Quote
"VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL LIGHT TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH G80 REAR AXLE ALL YEARS"
It cover every square with factory G80, 10,12, 9.5, 10.5
If you found a square with limited slip requiring additive,it wasn't factory.

Square body K5 had 8.5" 10 bolts. Show me a factory anything from the 80's that says that. Almost all K5's came factory with limited slip clutch type rear-ends that requires limited slip additives. I know because I have had tons of chevrolet Square body's including my brand new 1983 that blew apart the rear gov bomb in 83, yes I am old and probably have owned more squares than you are old. If I have to go take a picture of an original tomorrow in my garage I can. You need to dig in to where the term gov bomb comes from it has nothing to do with these new trucks and the locker rear-ends.

LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL LUBRICANT (SERVICE INFORMATION) #91-4-109
SUBJECT: LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL (G80) LUBRICANT - (SERVICE INFORMATION)
VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL LIGHT TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH G80 REAR AXLE ALL YEARS
Some light duty trucks equipped with locking rear axles (G80) may exhibit rear axle chatter, especially when turning a corner from a stop.
This condition of alternate engagement and disengagement of clutches in differential assembly is usually caused by contaminated axle lubricant.
To correct this condition, drain and refill the rear axle with SAE 80W-90 GL5 (P/N 10950849).

The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.

VEHICLES/COMPONENTS INVOLVED: ------------------------- ---- Some light duty trucks equipped with locking rear axles, RPO G80.
SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:
Part Number Description ----------- ------------------ 10950849 Lubricant, Rear Axle (1 litre)
Parts are currently available through CANSPO.
WARRANTY INFORMATION:
As specified in Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedules, locking rear axle fluid drain and refill is required owner maintenance at the first engine oil change. Failure to drain and refill the rear axle as specified may contribute to a later axle chatter condition. Refer to the appropriate Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedule or service manual, section OB, for further details on change intervals.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

All light duty trucks, even the ones with 10 bolts!

As for old, I was a gm tech in the 80s when these trucks were new and doing warranty and recall campaigns on so many 10 bolts you would need to own 5 new squares a year for the last 50 to come even close.

Okay Wes I didn't even look at your picture, so yeah we are old. Haven't had 250 of them but probably around 100. So you don't remember the 8.5" 10 bolt having a clutch type differential in the 80's? They popped like bubble wrap, is the reason gm paid for mine in '84. Never found out the real reason but heard several times it was thin casting carriers. So every one since then I have been gentle on them unless I changed it for a real detroit locker or Gleason-Torsion type limited slip. Don't mean to come off as a donkey butt. I will be opening one up soon get a picture of the clutches or eat some crow.

I am not arguing they blow up. Just that they do not get friction modifier.
10 bolts in cars with g80 were ls and they got friction modifier, not light trucks.
I did plenty warranty blown up trucks g80 gov bombs
