Redneck Radio Install

too hot...

I mounted a CB and a police scanner, and an amp in a similar metal box--they got too hot in there,I had to drill holes in the box until it looked like swiss cheese and add a small fan from an old computer to keep them cool...

I would not butcher the dash if its still virgin!--I wish they did not hack mine up in my truck!..so far my "stereo" in my plow truck ia an AM/FM cassette "boom box"..that I plugged into the ciggarrette lighter by using a plug off an old radar detector that croaked, and hooking it to the terminals where the batteries go into the boom box!--despite the fact its a 9V radio that uses 6 "D" cells,it plays fine on 12V!--even the tape player works amd sounds normal!--I thought maybe the tapes would run "faster" and sound like Alvin and the Chipmonks!--but it plays perfect!--it might NEVER get a "real" auto stero now!.. :D

I'm a "Red Green" show fan too!--too bad they never play them here anymore!--I miss watching him make useful things--like how to make an old boat trailer into a wrecker to tow disabled vehicles,or the plymouth reliant K car that turns on a spare tire "pivot" to get out of tight parking spots!...He's a classic!...

I agree there is not much room anywhere under the dash for your box--but if you leave it where you have it,you might want the foam on the OUTSIDE of the box--your knees might thank you!

that looks pretty good I suppose... is that please tell me that's not packing foam holding it in...

That is yhe packing foam that came around the unit, fits perfect in the can. I will monitor and see if it starts to get hot when I have it cranked up.

This is the result when someone steals your tools to rip out the radio you paid good money to have installed in a clean fashion and then you're left up to your own devices.

Oh and you're a hokie, rednecky kind of a backwards fellow.

Jenn added the Ghetto Tunes part.

I assume that is a compliment.

I think it's a good idea. I would be worried that it might garner more interest from would be thieves than a face off sitting in the open. But the original factory will hopefully throw the **ckers off.

I guess it's a compliment.

She thought I was an idiot when I tack welded the radio cage to that old piece of A/C duct I had settin around.

Worked though.
