Gears are not something you want to cheap out on. Cheap gears make a lot of noise and are prone to failure.

Get a good set of gears and get them put in by a reputable shop! Don't cheap out or you'll spend more money in the long run by doing it twice.

Get a set of 3/4 ton axles, they are virtually a bolt in for your Blazer. Many have 4.10's which will be great for your setup and they'll be much cheaper than re-gearing the axles you have. Plus the rear is bulletproof and you get bigger brakes.

Russel is correct but there is a counter point to this

Doing gear setup takes some special tools or another set of bearings to hog out the middle and use as setup bearings. If you are getting new bearings you can carefully pull your old ones out and use them as the setup bearings.

But it doesn't take that special of tools, the biggest one is the proper torque wrench to set pinion bearing preload. I know many guys who don't do this at all. Its kind of important. You can usually find a beam bender torque wrench at a bike shop with the proper calibrations.

Thing about gears is it takes time. There is plenty of info out there on how to do them that nearly anyone should be able to do them. But don't expect it to go quick. It will take a while. It is also fairly tedious work. If you don't have patience don't even attempt it.

If you don't set them up properly you will break them, then you will have to buy another gear set. There is only one way to do gears properly, the measurements are very small and must be within tolerance. Don't let anyone tell you different.

ty

that was a lot of help i guess i will just go ahead and spend the extra money and do it right do you guys know were a good place to order stuff for k5s it also has elec windows and i want to change over to roll up is there any way to do that with out getting new doors the electric does not work

one more thing

on the four wheel drive shifter it has a 2 low a 2 high 4 low and a 4high in 2 low and 4 low it does real good it is like haveing it in 4 high on most trucks it also has plastic locking hubs what is a good hub to put on there and how hard is it to put in

for the 1000 bucks it costs on average to regear 2 axles, just get a set of 4.56 geared cucv tons

What gears do you currently have? That is the very first question.

Not at all. I have had 3.08's, 3.42's, 3.73's, 4.10's, and 4.56's. All stock.

Martin

stock as far as i know i just got the truck about 4 days ago it has a 12 bolt rear

Stock means nothing. Before you proceed any farther, go pull the rear diff cover and find out what you actually have. That is step 1. No other steps are before this step.

You can always just regear to front 10bolt to 4.10s or 4.56, BUT..i would def. just go the junkyard and get a 14 bolt semi-float at least for the rear and put gears in it, some even come with 4.10s. This axle is a 14 bolt but still retains 6 lugs so you can use your current wheels. Theres alot of good info on this forum about this stuff. Like others have said, i personally wouldnt waste all the money in regearing when you can go get a stronger rearend and bolt it in with a little work. Thats what im currently doing to my own k5
