regear my k5

stock as far as i know i just got the truck about 4 days ago it has a 12 bolt rear

Me: So, what color is your truck?

You: It's the stock color!

That's about the same thing as what you are saying about the gears being stock. There were several possible gear ratio options coming out of the plant.

Just like any of the other threads recently about regearing, it's pointless to throw gears into a 12b... Pull the cover or if you're lucky the tag is still there to find out what gears you have...

There's a recent thread about electric windows, pretty straight forward...

I like my 4.10 gears and 35 inch tires. Should be a good ratio for you. You can raise the rear of your truck and spin the tire and count how many times your driveshaft spins to get the ratio if you don't
Want to pull the rear cover. Chock front wheels and transfer case in neutral to do this.id your truck Is Offroad only you could do deaper gears like 4.88 and get a lot more torque to the wheels. But y ou lose top end speed on road if you drive to where you wheel. I broke 3 12 bolts on 35s so that is why people are telling you to do a 3/4 ton conversion. You might be able to find one ton axles for cheaper than regearing what You Got.

You will be better off getting a pair of diffs from one truck, the gears will match, and the 14b will basically be free anyway.

If you buy the 14b seperately, then you might have to regear one or the other.

I didnt go over the thread again, but did you check your gear ratio yet? You should figure out how to do it, as you are going to have to check whatever diffs you buy.

i have found a 14b that is a 3/4 right or should i go ahead and get a 1ton

You'll want the front and rear out of a 3/4 ton... 1 ton rear will need the perches cut and redone... And yes, you need learn how to check the gear ratio so you get good gears in the 3/4 ton stuff...
