This ought to get some attention.......so let the razing and comments begin.
Yep....you read the heading right.....I regeared a 10 bolt rear axle from 3:42 to 4:10. Which means I need to change the profile of the Blazer.
I decided to learn how to change gearing because.........I like to work on my truck. And it's good experience for myself.
I know, I know......for the money, I could have bought a set of 3/4 or 1 ton axles, rims, tires, possibly a locker. But that's not the point. It's my Blazer, and I'll do whatever I feel like doing.
I've done alot of research on here, and I agree to a point that the heavier axles are better for certain things....but I chose to regear it instead.
Now, when I go to 34" or 35" tires, I'll upgrade to the heavier axles....and if they don't have a locker, I'll put one in.
Regearing isn't hard.....but it can be time consuming, you need certain tools, and you have to be patient. Basically, follow the instructions and you'll do just fine.
For the rear axle, I also installed a Powertrax No-slip locker which was a breeze.
I'll do the front axle in a week or so....I can't put it in 4 wheel drive until then (and after the break-in period).
And when I do go to heavier axles, I'm sure I won't have any trouble getting rid of the 10 bolt axles to someone that doesn't want to regear or buy the 3/4 or 1 tons.
The transmission loves the new gears....and so do I.
