Remove rear hatch and leave off......

So funny to read through this thread now. I removed the top and....well......it's still sitting on pallets out behind the shop, where it will likely stay. I do want a bikini top, but it's not my top priority right now.

I am not financially ready to really start the build yet (braces and a new horse for my daughter coming up), so I am just doing triage on the bigger issues so that I can continue driving it. Funny, for about a month the '88 was getting lonely, I was only driving the '72......without the top. My daughter loves riding in that thing without the top on it. Every time we go somewhere she's, "Let's take the red Blazer, let's take the red Blazer....." Hilarious. My plan is for her to drive the '88 (I've got 3 years, she's only 13), but we'll see.....I may end up looking for another First Gen!

I started pulling the intake manifold this weekend to fix an oil leak from the back. Once I got to where I could lay across the engine (what a pain in the $*%&) and look with flashlight and mirror, I realized that the leak is from the valve cover gaskets. So, I pull off the valve covers and the cork gaskets are like....glued to the heads. Every night I am doing about 30 minutes with a razor blade, shop vac, and rags......slowly getting it all clean and trying to avoid dropping any into the engine. Down side of having an awesome shop, buddies come over constantly........then you stop to have 'a' beer......and....it's slow going. I'm going to take the advice and wait on the transfer case seal issue until I am ready to really tear this thing apart and rebuild it. For now, I'll just keep an eye on the tranny fluid and drain the extra from the transfer case once a month or so.

I love that damn '72 without the top. You guys were spot on!

Being in a full-convertible truck is a completely different (and awesome) experience! :waytogo:

I remember being on a trail run once with a bunch of other Blazer guys. The sky was blue and there were big trees everywhere and being able to just crawl along the creekbed while looking up at the tranquility of nature all around was so immersive and fun. I looked at the other guys in their pickups and hard-topped Blazers and it just didn't seem like they were having the same experience at all...

Guys that say it doesn't make a difference have never been in a convertible truck......or they're lying! :haha:
