removing a leaf on a pro comp 6" front leaf spring

take some before and after measurements. i'm very interested in your results. i currently have 2" soft rides at all four corners and want to go up to a 4" lift. a friend gave me a nearly new pair of 6" procomp front springs but i don't want to be that high (too hard to get in/ out w/ my hip and knees). i'd like to remove a leaf or two like you're doing for the front 4" and add a block or do a 2" shackle flip w/ the 2" leaves for the rear.

Well my measurements won't help because this 5.3L I'm swapping in is 125 pounds lighter than a stock sbc at least. Then count the lighter radiator, etc....it won't be a good comparison. I can say this though....I pulled out the 350 engine and the truck did not move an inch....so I'd say far too stiff.

I am enjoying this thread as I was thinking of doing this myself this weekend. Not sure if I will have enough time this weekend so it may be pushed back. But if I do it I will make sure to get some measurements.

I don't know how much flex is considered good for these springs but are they supposed to go past flat and negative arc.

Well motor is in and the truck didn't settle at all from installing it. So far 125 pounds of engine weight is removed from the nose of the truck. Got my H2s painted black and tossed on at least as well. The nose is much higher now than the rear.

That burb is clean!

Your truck sits an inch higher in the front than mine but its otherwise identical. I also have H2 wheels. :D Gonna try removing a leaf or two soon but really trying to get the truck to pass smog first so I can actually drive it around on the streets.

well my plan is to finish this 2004 5.3L engine swap and get it running, then pop a leaf off or just buy the tuff country EZ rides.

Just removed the shortest bottom leaf along with the 3rd longest since it didn't have any clamps rivited to it. Now when jumping on the bumper the truck "barely" moves, before it was solid and didn't move. It's too late to take it for a ride tonight, but I'll definitely drive it tomorrow, although either way it needs new front shocks, ditching the quad shocks and just putting a set of skyjacker nitro shocks on the front, a pair of them. Hoping this will make the ride better as well.

I pulled leaves out of an 8" superlift pack and they flexed better but they only lasted about a year and thats on a truck that only sees wheeling duty and is a trailer queen.

well even if it gets my through this winter, that's far better than how it rode before. Getting laid off in a week from my seasonal job due to winter, so unless it snows a ton and we get snow removal days, I'll be pinching pennies until spring lol

Just came across this thread in a search. I'm in the same boat with my Blazer. 6" Pro comp springs and absolutely no flex. Xpndbl3, have any updates on ride and flex after removal? Anyone else with any updates?

Me too .. going through the same thing with my new Skyjacker “soft ride” springs up front. They are anything but soft like the name says…. Truck rides like a brick. I removed the sway bar and the shocks …. I can get the front the bounce a little now. Putting on new Blestein 5100 tomorrow… keeping the sway bar off…. And I’ll see what the difference it. If it still rides too stiff… I’m getting custom springs made.

hows she ride with the shocks? Mine doesn't have a sway bar. I just got the 6" rough country ez springs and i afraid their going to be hard as crap too!

Rides much better, although I do get a little wobble here or there when lightly applying the brakes, I'm thinking the leaf springs are moving side to side, because when applying the brakes firmer there are no issues and no warped rotors because the pedal doesn't bounce on hard braking. Softer in the front, but still stiff and I removed the shortest leaf and the 3rd shortest I believe. Put brand new skyjacker nitro shocks all around as well. Now the rear is still too stiff with the 7 leaf pack 56" factory springs, but I'm thinking they're hitting the overload spring also during travel and just making it worse. Debating buying new leafs all around or the 63" swap in back. I'd like the truck lower and would like a ride better than a bucking bronco.
