I buggered the fitting on my front passenger brake hardline & need to either reflare it or replace it. Is there some trick to getting the line out? It looks to me like I'd need to jack up the engine & remove the PS mount to get the line off.

And since my attempts are flaring lines are highly suspect right now, can anyone point me to somewhere I can get a ready-made replacement? Napa, Schucks, etc don't even list hardlines & LMC only seems to sell complete kits.

I'm not sure where you are talking about. Are you talking about the point where it comes through the frame and the soft line attaches? Your power steering pump is on the left side isn't it?

You could probably pick a new line up real cheap at napa and bend it to fit. Get the length you need and a cheap hand held bender. Start at the proportioning valve and work towards the right side frame.

A wire coat hanger works great as a template to get the bends right.

EDIT: Can you post a pic of what you are talking about?

Right, I twisted off the fitting that attaches to the softline. The hardline runs inside of the frame to a T fitting on the driver side. It's unhooked from the fitting & clamps, but it looks like I can't actually remove the line without removing the passenger side engine mount. I'd feel better about reflaring the buggered end if I could get the line out where I could work on it easier, but the other problem is my flares keep turning out looking like melted mushrooms and I don't know how well they'll seal. I could bend up another hardline, but then I'm back to the same problem of getting the original off the truck and questionable flares. Make sense?

When my soldering kept turning out like crap I googled "How TO..." And figured out what i was doing wrong.
Try that with your flaring.

Guess what...I broke my front pass one today.
I was putting longer hoses on and wasnt holding the hard line on the inside good and it twisted in half :(

Did you find new ones yet???

Had similar problem on my rear line.
I cut it off nice and clean a little ways back.
Next I got a compression fitting connection and a few feet of new hard line.
The hard line already had the flair and proper fittings, so it was an easy fix to slip on on the nut, compression ring, and then tighten everything up.

Find a parts store with the different lengths of hard tube made already and the counter dude/dudette should fix you up with everything you need to fix it in a few minutes.

Oops, forgot I had a tubing bender I used. However, I've bent some tubing by wearing leather gloves and slowly working the bend around my index fingers.

Nope, just LMC but looks like they make you buy the whole set. Stopflex.com
might do just the one line but then I have to go thru the trouble of calling & getting a quote. Consensus seems to be to just remake the line myself. Was at the pull-a-part today & got a good look at how it's routed and the passenger engine mount (the WHOLE mount) does indeed need to be removed to get the durn brake line out, which looks like an Imperial (as opposed to a royal) PITA:yikes:. I'm just gonna try my original plan & see if I can trim & re-flare it as it is on the truck, hopefully having it unhooked will give me enough room.

I wish mine was that easy.....I broke it right inside the frame,on the other side where the flex line go`s into it.I was trying to put my new longer Stainless line on.Im just going to finish my lift and let her sit there till I find a new line. In the mean time ALL my brake fluid is dripping out LOL , Oh well it needed replaced anyway because its black.

that is illegal and very unsafe.. Compression fittings are not designed to withstand braking pressure..

It may work, for awhile, but it could very easily fail, and kill people.....

I figured... it's an ok temp fix, but yeah, most compression fittings are only rated for 400 psi and hard braking can be upwards of 2000.. You'll sleep better at night...

OP... iirc, http://www.inlinetube.com/ has both steel and stainless prebents...

My s10 has a compression fitting on it....right behind the front tire running down the frame.

Wait..that might be a fuel line .... :doah:

Call a hydraulic supply shop and inquire if they sell a compression fitting for hydraulic ( high pressure ) lines. I remember using one of these fittings - all the parts were thicker to handle the higher pressures. Plan B would be to get a high quality double flairing tool. Probably from NAPA or Snap-On. Not the cheap Chineese junk most auto parts stores carry. With a high quality double flair tool, and a little practice, you would almost be an expert and can reroute the new brake lines.

ClassicTube.com has the line you want for $40 in SS .
BUT theres a month wait. I just ordered mine over the phone. The dude (Tom) was real helpfull an knew what he was talking about.

Thanx for the update. The price ain't bad but I was hoping to have the close to wrappd up in a month. Trouble is I can't even test my flare to see if they'll work yet:doah:

Im just going to wait and use the time to do some other things...windstar fans , locker , put my lights back on the bumper , mount the winch ...ect

Did you already remove the old line? & whats the deal with windstar fans, electric replacement for the engine fan?
