Removing smog parts

From what I heard from somebody, starting this year, you still have to have smog for the green sticker. So, going green sticker just to avoid smog check for your off-road vehicle is no longer an option.

Well my sticker is good until Aug 2011 so until then, I dont care :D.
If thats the case in 2011 I will just have to do the unspeakable V swap

Well, I was trying to look it up, This is what I came up with.
Statute 38395

§ 38395. Modification devices; Exceptions to prohibition

This article shall not apply to an alteration, modification, or modifying device, apparatus, or mechanism found by resolution of the State Air Resources Board either:
(a) To not reduce the effectiveness of any required off-highway motor vehicle pollution control device; or
(b) To result in emissions from any such modified or altered off-highway vehicle which are at levels which comply with existing state or federal standards for that model year of the vehicle being modified or converted.
Added Stats 1976 ch 1093 § 28.

There where a lot of statutes that have that "Added Stat 1976 ch 1093 'WTF is that symbol' 28"
I have been trying to look up "Stat 1976 ch 1093 'WTF is that symbol' 28" but not having any luck.

why else would you go green sticker then? :haha:

GM didn't just throw random un-needed parts at these trucks.

For sure they didn't have that O2 sensor for no reason but if the stock carb is gone and a Holley is in it's place, the Holley isn't going to adjust anything based on that O2 sensor (and wouldn't have a place or means for it anyway).

Removing smog parts is HORRIBLY overrated in my opinion, people feel like ditching the AIR pump and cat will suddenly make their 165 hp 350 jump to 300 hp. An exaggeration for sure, and yes, those things are restrictive but so many people end up with trucks that can't pass (or end up dumping their projects on someone that didn't know they won't pass).

Quite simply, old motors don't make as much power mostly due to head, cam (read. roller) and fuel induction design MUCH more than anything that has to do with emissions.

Yes, cats and mufflers now are more free flowing than before but they are much lower on the list of reasons that current motors make more power, better mileage and lower emissions.

Guess I missed the part about an aftermarket Holley carb. In this case the 02 sensor isn't doing anything.

I also agree with you that removing emissions equipment is overrated at best. The only thing that really gets achieved is to free up space in the engine compartment. It is a FEDERAL crime to remove ANY emissions equipment regardless of whether it is green stickered or not or beyond the year for emissions testing.

I guess i should make it clear that most of the smog parts are not hooked up anyway and i want to remove them to clean up my engine bay. it has no cats "due to previous jackass owner" and he did not bother to hook up any vacume lines when he installed the new manifold and carb so it will not pass smog. I have been wheelin it with the green sticker for some time now and i need room in my engine bay for dual batts and onboard air. thanks for all the help guys

Oh, you may be in luck. They person who told me about the rule change was trying to get his mid 70 ford green sticker-ed since it is his play thing and he has done mods to his motor.
I don't think California is doing smog checks for vehicles already having a green sticker, but need one to get the green sticker.

I know several people who just recently green stickered their vehicles and there is no smog required to do it.

I green stickered mine two years ago to avoid smog but i have not had to renew it yet.
