Replacement Spark Plugs

plugs for years now once fouled out = trash .. not like the old days of cleaning a plug ... dont know what they changed but they do NOT like to clean up .

Here's the six I managed to pull yesterday between rainstorms. Would you agree they are trash?

gap look a bit wide, and they don't look like Platinum plugs. Electrodes show little to no wear. color is not horrible

I gapped the new ones the same since I don't have any specs to go from...they are at .43", They are listed as platinum plugs, actually double platinum, whatever that means. Probably double the price. They shouldn't look too worn, they only have about 10k on them. New ones are shorter on top, makes it a real pain to get the wires on. Next set I'm going to try to find one with a longer/taller insulator. How much smaller would you say the gap should be?

Gap should be 45 or more. Modern ignitions do better and should have no issues at 45 or more

Just to say it out loud, the later TBI squares pulled the gap back to .035". What distributor / ignition is @anwat using?

as long as the gap on the plugs isn't larger than the gap between the rotor and tower. .045 is a good starting point for a HEI

Yes, I'm running a MSD 6AL with a locked out MSD distributor, the timing is controlled by the FItech. Is .43 close enough? I would hate to pull all the plugs for two thousandths but if I need to I will. There are things where it makes a difference, like when someone puts a .40 in a .45:

.043 is close enough, I've run .045 with my MSD 6AL and MSD distributor since the early 90's and it has always worked well.
