Request for wisdom, some pics

So I ended up ordering the Kingpin rebuild kit from ORD. Got the PS done in 2 days (PBR always slows me down). Then yesterday, the wife said those three little words that drives me nuts "Lets go wheelin". Well it took me an hour w/ test drive to get the DS done. DW is now gone but I'm pretty sure that it help with the new issue. The steering box moves.....

The bolts were loose, and one is stripped. I have the bolt-in and weld-in (not welded) braces. I'm willing to bet the frame is cracked. Which leads me to this question.

Doesn't hydro-assist put more stress on the frame? If my suspicions are accurate, I'll have the frame fixed and the brace fully welded. Does hydro-assist alieve the strain when turning big tires? I understand that stress goes to other parts on the steering.

WAY less stress on the steering, at least half of the steering force happens between the axle and tie rod, so a lot less stress on the frame.

I skimmed through and don't think it was mentioned. I torqued my springless arms down (running WFO arms with plastic bushings) and took it around the block only to get bad death wobble. Brought it home and with the weight of the truck now pressing on everything I backed the jam nut off the set-screw and it was really loose. Snugged it down and locked the jam nut back in place and all was well. Been like that for about two years now.

Crossover puts all the stress on the frame, because it is pushing the box away from the frame rails, vs the old push pull just simply trying to shear the bolts off.

Assist simply puts pressure on the ram end mounted to the axle. So whatever that may be, diff cover like DIY offers, a standalone mount like WFO offers for highsteer, needs to be strong, as almost all the pressure that the box may have had before is going to be transferred to the ram mount.

Know what else causes mad crazy so hard ya cant see straight make old ladys drive up on the sidewalk to get away from you death wobble??

This does.

And I gots hydro assist and it didnt do jack s*** for it !

:flipoff7:

I actually had two like that. Both in the front wheels :thumb:

I found the first one on an obsticle in Hollister when i blew a bead. I was like WTF

The other one I found giving the wheel a spin before i put it back on the ground after an axle shaft explosion repair.

Think USA 6x6 will warranty them :haha: ?

:haha: :haha:

I'm sure Dan (it was Dan wasn't it?) stands behind all his products 100%

Sorry for taking so long on the update... Just got back from sea and internet isn't too good under the water. Anyways...

I ended up fixing the DW with ORD kit and fender washers, worked real nice. I even took it out wheelin before I left on "vacation". Before I left I thought I was getting transferred so I had a local shop do some work to it while away.

They welded in the steering box brace, new D/S floor pan, and installed the 14BFF w/ Discs so I could ship it. So I was out driving the other day and the D/S tire locked up at about 35 mph. I had to use 4wd HI and Granny to get it out of the road. Anyway It fixed, or temporarily fix the issue, but now I'm concerned because I don't like the sound of those tires on pavement, much less being locked up on pavement. I wasn't riding the brakes and the disc weren't hot.

This ever happend to y'all?

Cross tied the shackles and new bushings in the hangers fixed mine. But looking back I'm sure my caster was off and my springs were very wore out. That was with very worn in unbalanced 35" tsl's and a bent frame
