Anybody have any tips on how to reset the bead on a tire? i've tried the strap around the tire and i couldnt get it to seal. Or should i just bring it to a shop? Thanks

Take some starting fluid and spray in the tire and make a trail coming out of the tire. Then light it. Once it ignites hurry up and shoot some air in it. You dont need a lot of starting fluid. If you use to much you can blow the tire off the wheel.

ive done this on the trail and had to let air out of the tire to get it to match the others psi. just make sure its a clean surface.

Easiest method!
We did 2 tires on our last trip!

The starter fluid method works well, I use it all the time. Be careful though, I have lost lots of hand hair this way

You don't need the air I have done this many times with out it.

This is a load of crap where you getting your info from? Obviously you have never done this before.

Tip for you: If you have no idea what your talking about don't give advice!

Ummm......I saw a bead come off of the wheel to the outside before, when using starting fluid. I guess I don't know anything either.

I think you meant the valve core

X2

and use a blow gun not the air chuck since the standard air chuck requires the core to be present to work. When you strap it, stand it up and kick the rim on the back side so the bead is on as far as it will go. Then have a buddy work the tire on the front side while you add air to get it to seat.

and ive seen a tire suck in unbelieable with out air as soon as it ignites. it sucked it right back off the bead

or you could take it to a shop and they will seat the bead in 5 seconds. if they are decent people they will not charge you. at least once a week someone comes in with something that they need seated, we do it for free.

if you mess up playing with starting fluid you could get really hurt.

ive seated beads both ways with startinfmgluid and by ratchet strap, im only 15 and figured out how to do it, just takes a little finesse and patience but it should go. when i used the ratchet strap i put the ratchet part right over the valve stem offset on the tread, then kept sonstant air flowing into the tire while hitting where it was not sealing with a 5lb mini sledge, once it held took off the ratchet and brought it to 30psi and hit around the bead with the hammer to make sure it was fully seated... hope that helps

I have seen people use too much starting fluid also, blows the bead off the rim.

also had them seat, then suck right back in. so I guess im another one that dosent know what he is talking about.

can you give us another tip and let us know where you found out otherwise?

Starting fluid and fire is the fastest way but BE VERY CAREFUL!! It is dangerous and you have to be quick to air it or it might come back off the bead. I did this 6 times the other day on a dumptruck driver so i know "I" have experience in this area.

I'm very cautious when using this method. Also you can take it to the shop as suggested above and some places have this tank with a bead setter on it. not sure exactly what it's called but it sends a huge sudden burst of air into the tire.
